It's been a long time since I've been here. The food is still great. I highly recommend the nachos; some of the best I had. Service was excellent. Ambiance is a casual.

The prices have increased, but the quality of the food and the service has decreased. We have stopped by The Cowgirl many times over the last ten years, and we always felt satisfied with our meals. This most recent visit felt like being robbed. The place has the same ambiance and menu items, but the prices are higher than ever. First, we discovered, to our disappointment, that The Cowgirl no longer provides complimentary chips and salsa with the meal. We always loved those chips! So right away we noticed higher prices but less food. Also the food quality was terrible. Over the years the food was never exceptional, but it was always satisfying. This time, my partner ordered a quesadilla, and found the meat to be dry and flavorless. I ordered the Texas veggie combo and substituted the potato for Mac and cheese (which was a recommended substitution at the bottom of the menu). My sad little combo (which cost $21.50- $2.50 more due to the substitution) arrived with the Mac and cheese (as requested), salad, and the potato, which was wrong, and no chili or cornbread, which was also wrong. I gently spoke up about the chili, and the food runner grabbed the potato off of the plate (in front of our faces) and went back to the kitchen to get the chili. The chili was instantly delivered in a small cup- about half a cup in volume or four tablespoons- and it did not have any sour cream or cheese with it. The Mac and cheese was almost as small a portion but had not been sloshed into the little cup quite as hastily as the chili, so at least it was full to the top. I then noticed that the cornbread was missing from the plate, so I had to mention it to the food runner, and she had to go back and get the corn bread. She was nice, but it was hard to ignore all of the mistakes. Additionally, our server seemed inexperienced and spoke quietly and sullenly. We had to ask him about the happy hour specials (he did not mention them), and we had to flag him down to replenish our drinks, even though his section was mostly empty, and he seemed to be standing around talking most of the time. He also kept snatching glasses and plates from our table just as we were finishing our last bites and sips. We won't be bringing friends and family to The Cowgirl ever again. It seems the establishment is on the decline. It's too bad- the West Village has lost many great restaurants due to high rent. It's sad to see one fall due to its own mediocrity.

Portions are hearty for $24.99!! I highly recommend the ribs. Onion rings were fresh and the decor is fun.

Where do I even start?. From the moment that we sat down, we were accused of being late to our reservation. The host I believe his name is David very miserable disgusting man. Told us we needed to be out by 9 o’clock. And this was at 7 PM. Because he made the mistake by booking Another large party of people at 9pm. We didn’t get to order our food until like 815-ish 830. Didn’t get our food until a little after 9 PM. And that’s not even for everybody. It was only for a few people some people didn’t even get their food until like 930.. I ordered the veggie chili entrée, which I thought came with a side salad and a baked potato, but they made me feel stupid For their mistake. I never got my sides, and I was still charged the same amount of money. The only thing that was good about the experience was my frozen mango margarita The table that was sitting behind us was treated 100 times better than me and my friends they were served on time and they even left about 45 minutes before me and my friends. There was an even bigger party of people sitting in the back of room behind us who left before us. They had the audacity to automatically charge an additional 20% tip just because there was five of us Without consent by the way. I almost contemplated, leaving without paying. That man needs to be put down. The way he was speaking to me and my other female friends in the group was disgusting like we were trash. He accused one of my friends of being condescending and having an attitude. when she was being sweet, kind and calm. Meanwhile, he was screaming at her. Because according to him, it’s our fault that the restaurant doesn’t run their business properly. A waste of $45. Also, the vegetable chili was disgusting. That’s a pitiful way to include a vegan option. Especially when there’s so many documented amazing vegan chili recipes.

Wondering if the place might have sold during or after the pandemic? Have eaten here for 15 years and it was always amazing, but ate here tonight, the first time in 2 years, and while the service was great, the food was pretty terrible. The ribs tasted freezer burned and were really tough and cold inside; the BBQ beans were not BBQ beans, but were literally like some canned store brand pinto beans from a can (unseasoned and definitely not-BBQ); the coleslaw was limp and stale tasting in a tiny little plastic cup. The baked potato was the only thing decent, but like how can you ruin a baked potato - but even it was served with little plastic packets of separated butter or margarine like a cafeteria unlike it used to be served. In fact the whole meal was similar to a school-lunch cafeteria. The menu has also changed - no burgers at all, which was disappointing to my partner on keto, no fries - only tots...the mac n cheese was bland and tasted like something from a tv-dinner without the baked crumbs it used to have - not even sure it had cheese in it. The frozen margarita was still good and the black-eyed peas and chips which are apparently no longer complimentary were still good. But definitely not the quality or experience we expected from Cowgirl. Totally disappointed for a place that used to be a frequent enjoyment.

This place is fascinating. The wait for other bars nearby we were hoping to go to was too long so we walked by this place and stopped in because the window made it seem like a candy-themed bar? We were wrong. It took a fair amount of time for us to even figure out what the name of the bar was but the southern/cowgirl theme was apparent? It was packed, not just with people but with decorations. It seems as if the decorators have been adding things for decades and unwilling to remove decorations already there, creating a sensory visual experience that was a mis-mosh of many styles. For example, there is a whole wall of elementary-school aged soccer team photos? The bartender was the best part, as she was super attentive and considerate. The drinks were fairly expensive, the cheapest margarita being $15. Went with the lime marg, which had a hypertension-inducing amount of salt on the rim, and prickly pear marg, which had a diabetes-inducing amount of sugar around the glass. Overall quite a strange experience, would recommend an overall edit of the decor and re-evaluation of the prices. Still don't totally understand the experience.

The service was terrible. Waited nearly 40 minutes for a server to come. The food was served cold.

A fun , kitschy bar and restaurant serving American comfort food. The staff were super friendly and accommodating and the service was really fast. We loved the corn dogs and shared an order as an appetizer. The southern fried shrimp and pulled pork were amazing too and the sides were delicious. The tater tots are fire.
