My friends made reservations for my birthday celebration, and we were excited to eat at File Gumbo for the first time. Upon arrival, we were seated at the bar instead of a table, which was unexpected. But then we were told our reservation was only for the bar. Creole on a cold NYC day is always a good idea. Brought the fam so tried many things. The grilled oysters were fantastic. The gumbo carried the same depth of flavor as I remember it in New Orleans. The grilled Caesar was a pleasant surprise and the crawfish Mac and cheese was the perfect accompaniment. The fried chicken (which I didn’t try) was sweet and savory if that’s your thing. I really enjoyed my evening out at this joint. The food was on point; well seasoned and expertly prepared. The staff exuded warmth and were very attentive. And a nice vibe and feel to the place. The only minor issue was (a) the seating is a bit tight and (b) it was a bit noisy. I would have given 4 1/2 stars instead of 4 but that's not an available option. I unreservedly recommend! And if you fail to try their grilled oysters...well, that will be your eternal loss LOL.
