Hate to say it but a major disappointment. We went with our friends who said they were recommended by someone they knew. We figured that an old school Italian NYC place was a no brainer. Well, we got chicken parmigiana and the quality of the chicken was lousy and the sauce had absolutely no flavor. Everything else that we ate was average at best. The only thing that I would give a high rating to was the service.

One-of-a-kind. Places like Gene's are so incredibly rare in NYC. The food is consistently great as is the service.

I'm originally from Maine and stopped in spontaneously after my art show reception. Welcoming environment and good food!

After a more than 60-minute late flight, we sped walked to Gene's. They were so gracious, professional and warm even though we were "those" people who come in with 45-minutes before close. The wine service, table service, ambiance, and food are top notch. Highly recommend. If you must be "those" people, be quick and tip 50%.

A great village staple. Simple food, nothing to get too excited about, but come for the intimate atmosphere and excellent service. We ate at the bar with one of NYC best bartenders taking care of us.I'll be back.

This meal was one of the best! I had the chicken marsala, and it DELIVERED. The staff was very attentive without being overbearing. It left like an authentic Italian experience and I would definitely go back. Period.

absolutely old fashioned American idea of what Italian cooking is supposed to be. If you have ever been to Italy, stay away. Lousy gnochi and worse than a bottled pesto sauce.

We have a very good dinner here. We were able to walk in with no wait on a Thursday night. The menu has a lot of classic Italian items but also some different options which is nice. The chicken parm was delicious as was the chicken liver appetizer.

Very special NYC experience...Besides the expected Italian specialties, try the prime rib on Sunday evenings, as well as, the unexpectedly great herring in sour cream appetizer!
