Chicken was stale and smells rotten. Didn't eat it. The Quality has gone down for this chain.

One of my favorite Manhattan traditions... the food is so quick, and authentic and tasty. Will always hit up HG when I'm in town

I fell in love with Halal Guys in NYC on 53rd and 6th Avenue. I also love them on Buford Hwy in Chamblee/Doraville, GA. Everyone is so friendly and it's a typical fast food look in the dining room. Delicious food!

At 10,300+ reviews, Halal Guys is one of the top most reviewed places in the world! I remember first hearing about Halal Guys back in 2016, my friends who are also yelpers brought me to the Halal Guys location in Costa Mesa, CA which had just opened that year. I had never had gyros before, but after trying it that night I've been hooked ever since! For 8 years now I've been dying to visit the original Halal Guys food cart in New York and I finally got the chance a couple of months ago! Beware! There's a copycat Halal Guys on the opposite side of the block. I was shocked at first that the line wasn't that long, and when I looked over, I saw another Halal stand, it turns out we were standing in the incorrect line. The authentic Halal Guys has a super long wait. I've noticed people on Yelp posting the wrong Halal Guys photos to this page. It sucks that there's a copycat business right next to them to confuse customers. I verified with the guys working the food stand, that they have no relation or connection to the other fake Halal Guys cart a few feet away. So don't make that mistake of going to the wrong food cart. If the line seems too short, you're probably at the wrong cart. We stood outside for about 45 minutes, but to me it worth it since I had been waiting years to visit. I ordered a small beef gyro plate $9 with extra white sauce. Oh my gosh, it's soooo delicious! If you've never had Halal Guys before, you'll be addicted! I'm warning you!

This place is extremely popular. The food was good, but I think the popularity is a little bit overrated. The people were a little bit gruff and need polish.

The Halal Guys make incredible gyros. We ordered 24 gyros--falafel, chicken, beef, and beef and chicken. Our middle school students and advisors loved the flavors. Inexpensive and super fast. Large or small orders are easy for them. So good.

WORTH THE WAIT!!! Them guys cooking. The food was lick the fork good. Rice tender. Perfect balance of meat n rice. white sauce good. Hotsauce a bit spicy but good spice notes. I almost wanted to grab a platter to bring home on plane. You gotta give it a try.

The Halal Guys is a Halal street food cart and restaurant chain that launched in Manhattan, New York in 1990. It was founded by Egyptian immigrants Mohamed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka and Abdelbaset Elsayed. The three partners traveled to the United States in the 1980s with hopes for a better life and dreams of entrepreneurial success. They first started off with a hot dog food cart. By 1992 they had switched to an option that no one else was tackling: authentic Halal food! They initially catered to Muslim taxi drivers who had few options for Halal cuisine. It wasn't long before a much more diverse clientele was going crazy for the Halal Guys' delicious platters of chicken and gyro over rice, falafel, pita and famous white sauce. Although Halal food vendors can now be found all over New York City, it was the Halal Guys who originated the craze. More food carts would pop up around the city before the partners turned their attention to franchising brick & mortar locations. As of 2024, there are well over 100 Halal Guys locations spread out over five countries... but the food carts can still be found at the intersection of W 53rd Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan. My family and I have been enjoying the Halal Guys' delicious food for many years now. We were very excited when a brick & mortar location opened in my home of New Haven in 2016. I visited many times until it closed in 2021 due to water damage from a burst pipe. I anxiously await the day that a new location opens in Connecticut. My family and I recently visited the original location in NYC. After a long day exploring in the city, we wanted to grab some dinner to take with us on the train back to Connecticut. When we saw the food carts, our minds were immediately made up. We decided to order and share two of their famous platters: one with falafel and one with chicken. As always, they tasted amazing; really hit the spot! We'll continue to be happy Halal Guys customers for years to come!

How often do you see a street food vendor who uses 4 carts and takes up two corners? Their food is definitely better than other chicken over rice plates I have tried around NYC. For me, the difference lies in their hot sauce, they add a few slices of pita bread and that their "salad" has green bell peppers. Service can be speedy.. but, it all depends on who is in front of you. Ambiance?... it's the streets, man! lol!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - SCAMMER. Charged me $90 for a single chicken gyro, tried to scam tourists by not showing price. Human filth behind the counter.

I've lived in the Middle East and done a lot of traveling s I like to say I'm pretty well versed in this type of food. I was really happy to see a halal option while we were touring. The line was long but we wanted to give it a try. I thought the man taking the orders wasn't very polite. The food was decent and an affordable option compared to other restaurants around. However, I didn't think it was that good as it's hyped up to be. It was just okay and I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again.

Always a hit. We love the chicken/gyro plate. The white sauce is a must and if you love a little spicy? stay away from the spicy sauce here it will literally burn a hole in your belly! Delicious but so hottttt! Service was good and efficient.

This cart had a huge line all night long on the weekend so I was able to find a slightly shorter line on Monday at 7:00. The food was awesome and the service was friendly. This platter was $12 and totally worth it! I would definitely recommend getting this. It's a food cart so you can't eat there.
