Lowe's Eatery isn't closed. The location has changed. You can find them at 164 W 116th St. I found this place the other night while leaving a friends and I was in the mood for Oxtails. This urge comes upon me once in a while, but when it does... It is Fierce! Growing up with southern cuisine, I tend to think of myself as a soul food snob, even if I don't eat it very often (other than when I'm visiting relatives). I define "good" southern food by two items - The Oxtail and The Mac & Cheese. I know Collard Greens and Black Eye Peas are fundamentals, but for me, it is the flavorful creativity of Oxtail and The Mac that defines a southern culinary genius. If you do it right, I'll take a bite. The staff was friendly enough, but not eagerly helpful (Unfortunately, this is what I've come to expect when dinning in New York. Sadly, it feels worse when you have similar phenotypic traits.) That is okay, I'll let that slide and I'll tell you why... My large plate of oxtail and mac showed up and guess what? It was HOT, Piping hot! I've been to many places in the area and the least you can hope for is mildly warm (something over room temp). See for this man, right here, a HOT plate is enough to make me fall in love with my people all over again! (I tend to fall out of love, when one of those "reality" court dramedies consume my attention for more than 5 min, but that is an issue my therapist and I are working through.)
