The Martha Washington Hotel, originally opened in 1903, is a notable landmark in New York City's rich history. Designed by Robert W. Gibson in the Renaissance Revival style for the Women's Hotel Company, the hotel was a pioneering establishment exclusively for women, a rarity at the time. This 13-story structure was one of the first of its kind to cater specifically to professional women, serving this unique clientele until 1998 when it transitioned to a regular hotel.Located in Midtown Manhattan, the hotel provided affordable lodging with rooms ranging from $3 to $17 per week and offered amenities like a drug store, tailor shop, and manicurist. Reflecting the progressive spirit of the early 20th century, the hotel helped accommodate the growing number of women seeking professional opportunities in New York City. The strict policy of no male guests underscored its commitment to providing a safe and exclusive space for its female guests.Over the years, the hotel has undergone several name changes and transformations. After its stint as the Martha Washington Hotel, it was renamed Hotel Thirty Thirty in 2003, Hotel Lola in 2011, and later King & Grove New York in 2012. Despite these changes, the building's historical significance remains, highlighted by its designation as a New York City landmark. The Martha Washington Hotel's legacy is a testament to the evolving role of women in society and the urban landscape of New York City, marking a significant chapter in the city's history of accommodating diverse social changes and needs.

Ordered for food delivery, and I was so impressed! I got the margherita and this pizza is AMAZING. Perfectly doughy and it has the charred black spots with a light crisp on the bottom and crust. The sauce and cheese taste super fresh, and I'm sad I finished it so quickly. I cannot wait to come here in person for an even fresher pizza. Also dying to try the stracciatella one!

We stayed later than closing time but instead of politely telling us they are closing, the server had a childish attitude retreating plates while banging the table and cups in an aggressive manner every few minutes.Maybe it was a bad day ...

Really sad this location closed! I’m so hoping they open somewhere else. We sat outside and got the pesto pizza, arugula salad, and the potato starter. The highlight were 1000% the potatoes. So good. We both said we should’ve ordered two. We also got espresso martinis that were delicious.Vegetarian options: Lots of pizzas with vegetarian toppings!

Great service! Marta is located in the absolutely gorgeous Redbury Hotel. The dining room and bar is spacious and welcoming. Staff was attentive and the food was delicious. Their brick oven pizza’s crust was really thin and crispy. Will be back for pizza hour soon!

Located in the Redbury Hotel and one of Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group's restaurants, Marta is definitely worth a visit. I have been eating here often for dinner since it opened nine years ago. As I had not been here for Restaurant Week, I decided to have lunch here last week. There was no special menu for this event. A 2 course prix fixe lunch was $30. One could choose from the main menu of an appetizer, salad or vegetable and then a sandwich or pizza. I chose the Suppli Al Salumi which were two risotto croquettes. These were filling and I could manage only one and a half. Pizzas are excellent here and my order for a Margherita pizza was a good choice. When it came, I spent some time admiring it before I had my first bite. Crusts here are wafer thin almost like a cracker and are oh so delicious! The tomato sauce and mozzarella with basil was flavorful. I was able to take two slices home for another meal. I drank iced water with my lunch. Choosing a dessert was extra and while the offerings were tempting they were also rather expensive. Service here was friendly and professional. Last week news about Marta closing on August 25th was announced as the Redbury Hotel which has two restaurants owned by Danny Meyer - Marta and Maialino - is now home to migrants. I saw several on my visit as the restroom is in the hotel and quite a distance. If a mouthwatering Roman style pizza is calling then have a meal here next week!

Pizzas with very thin crust, made in a real fire ovens... very nice. During happy hours 3-6 PM about half price = almost free compared to the quality. The pizza ovens give taste but also nice athmosphere. Service kind and smiling.

Marta is an Italian-Pizza restaurant that’s both elegant yet casual offering a great interior dining environment that is perfect for lunches and dinners! It’s also a great venue for private parties and weddings! We attended a wedding and reception that offered fantastic pizzas that were made in unusually designed wood burning pizza ovens that’s part of their open kitchen. Marta on of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group of restaurants so you are guaranteed a fantastic culinary experience.

I ordered to go. The ambience of the restaurant looked great and they where so fast. When I got to my place I realised that the pizza inside the box was a masterpiece - What a pizza!

2 stars for the service, 1/2 star for the pizza/cocktails, 1/2 star for the space/location. Service was fantastic. Frosé happy hour cocktail was tasty. Tried each of the happy pizzas - butcher’s was delicious (we ordered a second), margherita and stracciatella was nice, can skip the marinara. Tomatoes weren’t so ripe - sauce leans sour. Super thin crust (missing a good bite).

If you can imagine being on a Titanic, this would be the closest thing.A gorgeous restaurant in the front. The cosy wine bar in the back (Maialino).Soft music playing, hushed conversations of revelers. And in between the two, a former hotel, housing world immigrants guarded by the sleeping on duty us military.- coctails ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ no complaints- salad, gain, solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but honestly, how difficult it is to make a good salad?!- Clams Oreganata ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. An easy enough dish.- Pizza (The Butcher). ⭐️ I really wanted to love this one. “Soppressata, Guanciale, Pork Sausage, Mozzarella, Grana Padano”?! Really? Maybe, perhaps… not detected in meaningful quantities, but what really disqualified the dish was completely burnt, to the point of carbonization, crust. When I politely mentioned it to the server, the reply was even more unacceptable.“Oh, I can take it back to the kitchen. They will scrape it off for you”!!!!Seriously guys???!!!- Branzino Fillet Alla Putanesca was so minuscule that I wish I had a microscope to actually see it and the acidity of the sauce would surely be enough to dissolve the chains of Count of Monte Cristo. If the portion was any larger it would definitely cause a serious acid reflux.Raspberry Sorbetto was so hard that seven dwarfs would need at least a week to dig through.Well, let the music play, and revelers to pretend that all is well and fine while the ship is going down.

Right from the beginning you know you are in a good place. There is a very lively vibe. You get helped right away and the service is really friendly. They have a big and diverse menu. The food is really good and (for New York standards) not pricey. It is wise to book ahead otherwise you might have to wait a few minutes before a table is available.

Two courses for Summer Restaurant Week and my choice was an appetizer of Suppli Al Salumi of risotto croquettes and Margherita Pizza. The suppli was filling and the pizza was delicious as always. Service was friendly and efficient. Over the decades I ate here several times. Today news came out that Marta is closing late August. I am returning next week for another lunch and to bid adieu to a fine restaurant.
