The fried chicken was awesome! The garlic mashed potatoes are very good, I was not a huge fan of the yams because they had a very smokey taste to them. The honey chicken tenders were very good.

From the moment I walked to the moment I walked out, I was treated as family. Everyone was welcoming, helpful and so friendly. I had oxtails, rice and peas and homemade potato salad. It was delicious, the best meal I had on my trip to New York for the UK. See you guys again next year xx

Really awesome food, I just wish their catfish sandwich was bigger? It's kind of small to be an entree in my opinion

Very friendly welcome and service. The cuisine was tasty and original (for us, simple European tourists passing through). A good moment. Consider booking on the weekend.

If you can get a table I suggest you do it. If you have out of town guest Melba's never disappoints. Only knock is grits are only served on the weekend's.

I visited Melba’s on a cold ‘spring’ Friday night around 9 pm. The restaurant was around 75-80% capacity during my visit. The hostess was very nice and gave us a few options where we could be seated. It took 15 minutes to actually be attended to, I’m not sure why there isn’t at least 2 waitresses in the large dining area, but afterwards the service improved. My date ordered their special sangria and I ordered the strawberry Henny which was great- not too sweet and definitely strong (I ordered 2 and they were pretty consistent in flavor). My dish was the honey ginger salmon, I ordered a side of Mac & cheese as well a side of collard greens. My date ordered the fried catfish with mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese. He said this is his favorite restaurant in NYC and it did not disappoint. This was probably one of the best salmons I’ve ever had in my life, the best salmon I’ve had in NYC for sure. It was so juicy and flaky, cooked medium-rare the way I like it and it was well-seasoned. The collard greens were juicy and extremely flavorful- you wouldn’t know you’re eating a strong tasting green leafy vegetable. We also had the spring rolls as an appetizer- though it was definitely very greasy (apparently they used a thinner rice paper than when my date has been here before) the filling was very flavorful and much different than any other spring rolls I’ve ever had. The Mac & cheese was decadent! It had flavor, a little spice and I could taste the pepper. Mac & cheese is hard to find well-made outside of home cooking or Jamaican restaurants so they really deserve the praise here.Overall 5/5! Highly recommended and the ambiance is very nice, beautiful artwork. The bathrooms are clean and the music playlist was great- I was singing all night and even in the bathroom (they have speakers in there too). This place is a vibe, I was close to coming back for a second night in the row to try a different dish.**Update- I returned and wasn’t very hungry so I ordered the ginger salmon again but with collard greens and sautéed spinach this time. The salmon wasn’t cooked as perfectly as the first time, more on the drier side this time but still tasty. The greens were tasty as usual ?.

For $36 not including tax this is what I got for my food. And I went and picked this up. So no fees. A small container of ribs Mac and cheese and yams. There were 3 pieces of ribs in the container. And the containers are entirely too small for an entree. Especially for this to be priced at $36. Insane!

This is my first time visiting this restaurant and I am from Michigan. I had the country catfish, greens and potatoe salad. The food was so flavorful and they provided great portions, the music was great and I love the atmosphere. I will be telling my friends about this place and I will visit again when I come back to Harlem.
