I stopped by this place on my first visit to Urban Hawker and I'm so glad I found it! Urban Hawker itself is a great Singaporean food hall, and while I'd want to try some of the other spots there as well, I'll definitely be coming back to Smokin Joe at some point. Walking through the stalls, the news article at their booth stating they have some of the best fish and chips in New York City is what initially drew me in. The other dishes on the menu looked great too, but I knew that's what I'd have to try. The crust on the fish had good flavour, the fish was tender (albeit a bit thin), the fries were amazingly crispy (almost like Costco food court fries, if any Canadians happen to come across this) and the most addicting pineapple slaw. Each component was great on its own, and everything came together really well. While I don't think I'd had quite enough fish and chips here to substantiate the claim, the fish and chips here are a great pick and I'll definitely be back again.

First off, this food hall was fully of some many exciting vendors. It was hard to choose a place to eat - they all looked amazing but Smokin’ Joe won me over with the aroma of curry. The fish cutlet and curry rice was fantastic - savory and dense in flavor yet light. Highly recommend.Cons: it’s a busy food hall so finding seating is a ten minute activity, and I wish this dish was $15 instead of $19. Most dishes in this food hall are around $18Vegetarian options: They have a vegan cutlet thing option, didn’t have so don’t know how good

This is located inside the Urban Hawker food court. To the honest, I haven't yet found my zen at this place. I get flummoxed by having so much choice. That said, I do love the fish cutlet curry rice dish they serve here. The curry has hints of Japanese brown curry. The food is always piping hot and super fresh. There is so much food in one serving that my husband and I have taken to sharing an order and we both leave feeling happy. So, check it out. And if food halls makes you nervous, this one seems to have ample seating and clean restrooms. Enjoy!

I got the fish and chips. Fried fish was folded and soggy on the inside fold. The coleslaw was soggy and limp. Not the best fish and chips in town….

I asked twice what kind of fish was in the 'grilled fish w/ curry' as there's no indication of provenance on the menu and twice was told it was "Black Sea Bass". After receiving the item it was immediately clear that wasn't the case but I was hungry and starting eating, googling more about the item concurrently. Turns out they use Swai - a cheap catfish - and clearly very much not Back Sea Bass. I approached the proprietors about the obfuscation and was told "that's what we were told" without the slightest hint of an apology or remorse. When I mentioned how disappointed I was by the the lie (I'm allergic to the vast majority of catfish) I was told "what do you want us to do?". That's definitely not how one should run a restaurant.

Chicken katsu curry never disappoints! Located in Urban Hawker food court and speedy service even during lunch rush.

If you can't decide which stall to order from at Urban Hawker, I would recommend stopping by Smokin Joe. We ordered the fish and chips which includes one large piece of fried fish on a bed of fries with a side of coleslaw and tartar sauce. The dish was well seasoned and there was just the right amount of batter on the fish. The fries are addicting. We also ordered the chicken cutlet which comes as a platter including rice, cabbage and a fried egg. The curry sauce poured over it is mild in flavor but delicious. This platter could be enough for two meals if you aren't too hungry.

Fanatastic food! One of my favorite curry spots in the city. Staff are friendly especially the cashier. One suggestion is it would be great if they can separate the sauce or not to pour curry sauce on top of the cutlet.

Ok 1, I loved the little strip food court. Amazing. 2. So many restaurants to choose from and everything looked sooo good but my eye was caught on the curry chicken cutlet with egg. I've never been a fan of curry... but this curry mixed with the amazing mouth watering cutlet was to die for. I could literally eat it every day. Loved it so much in there. Can't wait to go back!

The level of fry in the fish and chips is just right, crisp without the oily sog. Flavor also on point. Definitely recommend if you are looking for an good alternative/compliment to the typical SE Asian farr served at Urban Hawker.

Urban hawker market is a welcome addition to midtown and one of the destinations for fry guys is Smokin' Joes. They are lightly salted and I suspect intentionally avoiding any risk of distracting from the star of this dish - the the thin swai fish with tight crunchy bread crumb. It may be unmemorable on its own, but is a great rhythm section to the star of the show. If you're getting fries here, you're going to have to call them chips and get them with this special fish!

It's indeed smokin' good! How can you not like a hawker stall like Smokin' Joe? They fry chicken or fish right in front of you, and that's omakase / chef in the counter fresh. The batter is magical, making fried chicken and fish crispy with additional crunch texture you don't normally get from standard friend chicken places. On top of it curry with all their spices come in. What a magical dish.Tip: The location on Google Maps is wrong / not yet updated. Smikin' Joe is rought in the middle of Urban Hawker.

Guys!! This curry was so good!!! The fish in the picture is folded in half, so it doesn't look as big as it was. Not only was it delicious it was literally fried right when I ordered it. Came out perfect. This place is super worth it and the box even came with an egg plus some cabbage. Can probably work for two lunches :)
