Felt like a speakeasy with restaurant hidden downstairs. Although everything was very fresh, not sure I enjoyed it more than other omakases in NYC particularly as it’s 1* Michelin.

One of my favorite Japanese omakase restaurant in NYC. Their shari (sushi rice) was on point, creating a perfect harmony with neta (fish). I highly recommend!!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. My partner and I came here for my birthday dinner on a Tuesday evening and it ended up being just the 2 of us. It was truly a private dining experience. I’ve been to several omakase restaurants, but this one was the most memorable. The beauty of the restaurant lies in its simplicity, the hospitality was warm and attentive and every dish was exceptional in taste and presentation. I highly recommend Sushi Amane for anyone interested.

Service and atmosphere don't match the price point.I arrived about 5 minutes early and thought I was at the wrong place because all the lights were off and the storefront had a different name. Apparently you're supposed to walk through that restaurant and go to the basement. I was told to wait by the tables downstairs, which is right next to the bathroom by the stairs. While I waited I heard the waiters urinate and stomp up and down the stairs, which I don't expect to hear at a $250pp price point. I don't understand why they couldn't just seat me right away (5:30 reservation yet seated around 5:45).The chef is very nice and the food is fine. I particularly enjoyed the baby tuna with torched skin, which I haven't had before. But other than that, everything else fell flat. Good, but not memorable. Lost momentum half way through. Then comes the funny part. There were 2 waiters and a total of 3 customers that Sunday night, yet the service was slow. They didn't clear my plates fast enough because they were busy on their cell phones that the chef had to clear them. They even brought spoons for the wrong course to the other party so the chef had to correct them. Perhaps they are new? I was also asking for decaf teas at the beginning of the meal, so it's pretty obvious that I won't be drinking caffeinated green tea at the end of the meal, yet he brought it any way. Other omakase restaurants serve decaf teas at the end if it's dinner service. Is this the type of attentiveness I can expect only from $400+ omakase restaurants now?And here's the real kicker. When I asked for the check to pay for my drinks, the waiter explained that he will charge the total amount to the same credit card because that's "better" for them. I was a bit confused since I'm used to paying for the omakase portion ahead of time through Tock and paying any extras after the meal. So I just assumed he meant he'll just add it on to that tab. Then later, he brings what looks like a receipt, so I get ready to leave. But he chases me down and says I didn't pay. And I was so confused? He said he already refunded my Tock charge and asked me to pay for the whole meal again. I didn't see what the point of doing this was, but I gave him my credit card. And when I saw the credit card receipt, I realized why he was doing this. According to Tock and their website, they charge a 10% service fee. But if he cancels that charge and recharges my credit card for the whole meal, he can ask for at least 18% tip on the whole bill ($250pp + any extras), which is why it's "better" for them. Needless to say, I left with a bad taste in my mouth and will not be coming back.

Very small, star-rated restaurant with excellent omakase at the counter. The service is very courteous and friendly.

Phenomenal menu with a very strong otsumami lineup followed by a classic style of nigiri, where chef displays a variety of rice making techniques. Deserving of a Michelin star, Amane is one of the most traditional edomae style Omakase counters in NYC.

Hands down the best omakase I’ve ever tried. Their fish is top quality and it is undeniably the freshest. Tomoyuki Hayashi is an extremely skilled and creative chef that is able to broaden the traditional flavours of Japanese cuisine and turn them into a mouth watering and exquisite experience. Definitely a must try if you are into Japanese culture and in town. I can’t say enough about the quality of this restaurant.

Food is great and service is amazing too. One of the best omakase I had in nyc. Chef is very professional and their Japanese service makes you feel so comfortable rather than those who ask for high tips.Every pieces of sushi is so fresh and perfectly prepared. The monkfish liver is so smooth and melting in my mouth. Scallop is very fresh so is the uni.Only thing is that the appetiser portion could be slightly bigger. Overall 10/10. Highly recommended!

Overbooked on my birthday dinner. Called to cancel my reservation and didn’t offer any alternative beyond a quick apology / moving my reservation to the next day. Take your money elsewhere.

Unfortunately the night we were dining, the chef was out (told he was at the hospital, very unfortunate) - and thus the food reflected that. Other special items were not available due to this. Staff did everything possible to compensate, thank you for that! Will have to try again when the chef is in.

One of the best sushi spots in the city. Super fresh fish and very authentic Japanese flavoring. Almost dont want to leave a good review bc i want to keep it a secret! The nigirs are absolutely divine. The seasoning on some of the nigiris to complement its taste (like yuzu salt) is perfect and elevates the flavors. The uni rice bowl with grilled perch is to die for - tho it’s quite small, probably given the high quality (and expensive) uni in it. The itamae san used to work at a very famous sushi restaurant in Tokyo. Service is very attentive.

Very special dining experience however we felt the menu contained too many small plates, several that we didn’t particularly like. However, the nigiris are unbelievable, the quality of the fish is perfect, and the service is top notch. Nigiris are simply fish, rice, and wasabi. No frills, quality and tasty! The chef is very kind and humble as well as the rest of the staff.
