Old school diner with a heart of gold. As New York as it comes. Just go! They have drinks and great portions.

Had the sole special…with lentil soup, skipped the mashed potatoes to make it low carb…delicious!!!Dietary restrictions: I can often make my meal low carb at no extra charge

Came into this cafe before our show started at the theatre , obtained something lite/light to eat and drink. The appetizer chicken wings were good and the cocktails were okay. Prosecco and a screwdriver was ordered. You can't mess up a Prosecco , but the screwdriver didn't have an ounce of a screw or a driver inside that cup. Just a tall glass of orange juice. Where was the vodka?. I do not know and of course a glass full of ice. This is a (n) nyc cafe we are paying the prices for what you're selling can we get what we've paid for please. The server was a very nice server she was very pleasant. The end..

Too expensive, portions too large, hygiene sub par.Three items from the breakfast menu + three drinks + tips = $ 115,- ... That is waaaaay too expensive. The portions were also huge, I can imagine them having to throw half of the food out because people can't finish their plates. The place felt a tired and run down; spotty cutlery, worn plates with a grimy film, messy workstations, loose ceiling tiles.Viand Cafe could potentially be a decent diner if they would cut the portions in half (and therefore also the prices).

Very nice address for this restaurant ?? we had lunch here for our last meal in NYC. Located very close to our hotel in the upper west side.Impeccable service. I recommend this place. We had a good lunch, my plates are well filled. You can go there with your eyes closed ?☺️

they blatantly add to your bill a credit card fee BEFORE you get your bill and decide how you are paying. The fee is then calculated in your tax and your suggested tip amount. There is no signage or notice posted for such a fee as other places warn. They claim they do it "because they can and everybody else does it". Not true. Especially when your menu is already overpriced ( $3.75 for watery cup of dishwater passing as coffee) Top it off with mediocre food bored staff and rude managers. D- Skip it.

A great value diner with amazing service. I couldn’t believe how good the lamb was. The menu said chops but I received 3 thick and juicy, beautiful lamb cutlets. The coffee is great….and limitless. This isn’t a place for a gourmet experience but what you’ll get is good, honest fare with a side of old-fashioned great service. Some of the more big-name NYC restaurant's could learn from Viand’s team.

Visited for breakfast whilst staying on the Upper West side. Cafenis part of the Beacon Hotel .Lots of tables available and quickly seated. Service was impeccable...can't remember the server's name (thin, strikingly beautiful black lady with afro styled hair) and the food was great - we got banana pancakes and didn't need to eat again until late afternoon!

The Viand Cafe was very convenient when I was staying at the Hotel Beacon, but the food was very average. With so many outstanding places to eat within a block or two, this was a one and done for me. Will not bother to go back.

This diner has to be one of the most overpriced diners we have ever encountered. We would bet it gets a lot of tourist customers from the hotel Beacon, which is right next to it, but not being tourists. refusevto be ripped off. We have friends staying at the hotel Beacon, and they wanted to try it out the end when we looked at the menu. we had stickers shack. Nine dollars for rice pudding? Where other diners have their main dishes generally priced beginning in the $20 and up range Viand is $30 and up. The food? We had chicken souvlaki which was smothered with french fries and very little chicken underneath, chicken franchese absolutely horrible absolutely no sauce whatsoever just a big pile of ziti and two pieces of chicken tasteless tough and chewy. We dined inside the ambience is OK. It looks like you expect a diner to look with booths. Tables and chairs and it is spacious. But this diner is the quintessential. TOURIST TRAP!! 10 blocks away on Broadway is the city diner, one of the chain of diners run by a family. Not only is their food delicious but their prices are reasonable. This neighborhood is filled with restaurants from ethnic to American &!!some small pizza places with reasonable moderate prices The only good thing I can say about them is they have very good French onion soup which is also overpriced now. $14 but really excellent. We don't think we need tell true New Yorkers about avoiding this ridiculously overpriced diner, but unfortunately being right next to a hotel, and there are no menus in the lobby,, all we can say is look on Yelp, and if you are in this neighborhood of the hotel Beacon you will find a multitude of excellent reasonably priced restaurants. If you adore French onion soup, there are also many restaurants that serve it, and they are restaurants, not diners, but the ambience is elegant, the food outstanding, and you will pay restaurant prices. But at least you are getting what you paid for. There are too many other nearby diners with normal prices and you will see many of the reviews mention the prices at the Viand as very expensive for a diner. You have been.warned.
