I rarely make YELP reviews but I feel that this place deserves it! I work very close, Rockefeller Center, so I have the pleasure of eating here more often than I'd like lol!! The food is sooooo flavorful. The servers are swift, knowledgeable and nice. Pleaseeeeeee try the beef lo mein! *chefs kiss* I'll update with photos soon!

The Dawg

The hands-down worst Chinese food, possibly in the Northeast. What are they doing in Midtown next to Rockefeller Center? Very, very bad food.

Absolute recommendation for (European) tourists who had enough of the crazy prices for mediocre food and service you get in NYC. The food is great and the menu offers a lot of options. Waiters are very friendly and helpful when you have questions regarding choices of food or wine. The portions are huge and at a very reasonable price. They also know their wines and this was the only restaurant who asked a fair price for a glass (comparable to France, Italy and Belgium). To top it off, your glass of wine arrives almost completely filled to the top! This was the only restaurant during our stay in NYC we (gladly) tipped 25%.

It wasn't very busy at the moment and we were placed at the back of the establishment. We were handed these menus that looked like they have been used for many, many years; literally falling apart... yet, charming in its own way...? When you examine the room, it looks ancient. I really wonder what the place used to be before they used it for a Chinese restaurant. Our server was knowledgeable, swift and very pleasant to converse with. I asked him how long they have been operating at the location and he replied "Over 30 years". We ordered the Spicy whole fish. I asked to have the heat turned down. I'd imagine that if they had prepared it the way they should have it'd have delivered that unique, tingly spice that pepper corns are known for. For me, it was very mild. My buddy thought it was still a bit spicy. Regardless of our personal opinion on heat level... it tasted pretty good. Thinking that just a fish wasn't gonna be enough food for us, we also got the Young Chow Fried Rice. Well, that fish dish could have been a meal all in itself. The fish was covering a bed of glass noodles and Enoki mushrooms. It all played together well. I found the sauce so tasty I mixed it in with the fried rice, lol! It was quick lunch and I am not gonna lie, we went in expecting lunch specials. They do not serve lunch specials in house. Take out only.

Amazing family style plates. My co-worker and I would make it a point to visit at least one a month. Highly recommend the kung pao chicken. For more about our experiences, visit www.thetabaret.com

One of the things to love about New York is finding apparent holes-in-the-wall that open to some grand room or some shuffling mass of hidden gather. Here, beyond the stoop up above the Five Guys, a pre-war townhouse parlor is filled with tables, professional servers, and a quality menu. A bar at the front window for persons-in-suits or lonesome travelers; a quick lunch or a family meal under sconces and mantles, high arches and chandeliers. Travelers should tuck into this place to escape the crowds and New Yorkers should find a familiar haunt. A lovely place.

The flavors for the classic Sichuan dishes were good but if you're looking for actual Sichuan spice levels you should ask. Good candidate for a wide selection of Chinese food if you're in the area.
