I want to start this off by saying I’ve only been coming to roots for maybe like 6 months, and almost every time I visited roots I have been served by Stevie and I enjoyed chatting with her if it wasn’t busy and she always had a positive attitude and was so chill and kind and patient even though sometimes I’m a little indecisive or particular. The last time I came in the girl running the place was named Lexi and she was the opposite of what Stevie was like. Her whole demeanor seemed negative and it seemed like she was trying to rush me because I took a little longer than normal to decide which tincture I wanted in my tea and I saw and heard her sigh while she thought I wasn’t paying attention. I like extra syrup in my tea because I prefer it sweeter so I told her and she rolled her eyes as she was turning to pump the syrup thinking I couldn’t see her. I don’t know what happened to Stevie since she wasn’t there the last couple times I visited. I don’t know if they fired her or not but I’m assuming so because I asked my friend who also stops at Roots on her way to or from work or on her lunch breaks most days if she’s seen her but she told me she hasn’t seen Stevie in a while. I don’t know what happened, but I assure you that Stevie deserved to be promoted, not fired. I really hope they hire her back if she’s really gone, if this girl Lexi is there again when I visit next time, I might just leave and try to come back when someone else is running Roots, because I do not want to interact with her again.

I used to really like hanging out at this place. Stevie, Rebecca and Mel would always make me feel welcome. It's not like that anymore. Unfortunately two out of the three names I mentioned up there don't work here anymore & they hired this girl Lexi to be the manager there and she makes me so uncomfortable.Quite often I walk in there and I stand at the counter and Lexi doesn't acknowledge me at all. Then another customer will walk in and she'll greet them and ask them what they want and this has happened two times where I've confronted her and said "what about me? I've been standing here waiting for you to say something and take my order."I'm not a mean person and I don't know what I did or said to rub her the wrong way but she just acts like she doesn't like me and I don't understand why. I spend money every time I go in there.I don't really know the person that owns this place but you should really focus on hiring more employees who have actual people skills.

I honestly don’t even want to bother going at roots anymore. It used to be my safe place where all my friends would go to order cool and delicious teas and play games there and just get to see each other again after a long time. It saddens me that my girl Stevie really got fired over something so ignorant it should have just been professional and handled better than just termination and management should really look into better qualifications for new hires for real. One of the girls that always works there-Lexie is extremely rude and doesn’t acknowledge loyal customers that are always friendly and aware of people as we like to include everyone that comes in. I hate to say this but I will not be going to roots anymore!!!!!

Great place, cool atmosphere, really chill. Slightly disappointed with the newly limited kava menu. Still definitely worth the drive just to hang out <3 !

Roots has it all. Always nice to see a aesthetically pleasing kava bar with great drinks on Long Island and in New York. A must stop for anyone into kava/ botanicals along with newcomers looking for a healthy/ relaxing lifestyle.

Intrigued by the signs in the windows exclaiming the benefits of kava, my friend and I strolled into the wonderful world of this non alcoholic bar. Being virgins to this root, we asked for guidance on what to order. This kava is supposed to have the relaxing, mellowing effects of say, Marijuana or even alcohol, but without the detriments that come with those. The young lady suggested a cold kava drink in a coconut cold mug with a slice of pineapple. There's a single, double or triple. She said it's suggested to start high and get the product built up in your system, then go down to single whilst in maintenence mode. We went with the double. We watched her spoon a large spoonful of what looked like, as another patron said, dirty water into our coconut cups! And garnished this dirty water with a pineapple. Bon Appétit! Well I have to say upon the first sip, I was waiting to be repulsed, but it actually didn't have much of a taste. As I got closer to the bottom of the cup, however, I got more flavor.. it was definitely a muddy, earthy flavor. I loved it I have to say. My friend was not a fan. Ha! I guess it's an acquired taste. The atmosphere was very chill. Seems an eclectic crowd. Young, old, parents, singles, white and.. well (us two) black! It was a cool decor. They have board games you can play. Seems a great place to chill alone with a book or laptop. It was dog friendly as well. I think if i lived here, I'd probably be a regular very quickly. Kudos!

I'm really sorry I spent over $15 on a kratom tea. It is embarrassing and goes against my values to spend that much. I thought I had to try it. It seems very light on kratom which is ok for me now but not so much if you're looking for a lot of kratom, if it happens to be good for you. The girl working was pleasant and the atmosphere wasn't bad but they didn't even make kava tea which is weird. Not recommended for exorbitant prices. I have a weakness being a push over I should have walked out.

There are no strangers at Roots, Just friends you haven't met yet. The kava-tenders; Mel, Stevie and Becks (as I call her) are glorious in all their duties. The atmosphere is unique and can't be duplicated anywhere else. Plus there are so many events each week there is something for everyone. Also, Angela who left the bad review just celebrated her birthday at Roots, see my photo.

My partner and I come here all the time! The staff are always so helpful, the drinks are great, and the environment is all sorts of enjoyable. The snacks and array of customizable kava drinks give everyone great vibes to brighten their day. It's a way better/healthier choice than alcohol. There are local artists that come by and paint/draw, there's local art on the walls (including the chalkboard wall), there are game nights which are a hit (we play games at any time of day though!), they have open mic nights where really talented people perform, and always a group of warm, friendly people there. People of all ages from all walks of life are welcomed. They pull off wonderful celebrations for holidays and people's birthdays. It's a fun, happy, and inclusive community that we and Bobby (the owner) have cultivated. For an antisocial homebody like myself, I find myself looking forward to seeing everyone quite often! If you're looking for a cute cafe with any combination of warm lights, cute plants, art, games, drinks, and good people, you've got it right here :)
