Two words: Pozole and Mole. Go. Try both for a wonderful explosion of flavor. The Pozole was chock full of hominy, pork, cabbage and more with a rich and spicy broth. The chicken mole had a deep rich texture that lingered on the taste buds. Service was excellent and the bill was very reasonable.

My family heard about La Cabanita while attending a Oaxacan Guelaguetza presentation at the Poughkeepsie Library. We were intrigued by the mole-making history and the samples offered during this event. We finally got a chance to come back to Poughkeepsie. We enjoyed their mole. It was well blended and flavors pretty tasty! We ordered a tlayuda plate, estofado de pollo, the pollo en salsa amarilla, flautas, sopes and chicken cluttets. We liked everything but most especially the mole and the estofado.Vegetarian options: Substitutions were done by request. Some dishes consiste purely of vegetables. Meat protein can be added separately.Dietary restrictions: Changes were done by request.Kid-friendliness: The restaurant is kid-friendly. We ordered chicken cutlets which is breaded chicken or milanesa empanizada de pollo. My husband calls it chicken schnitzel. The kids liked it.

Came here our first night in Poughkeepsie and it was a great decision. Food was absolutely great, cooked well & tasted great. Waiters were nice and the atmosphere was amazing. It was quiet when we first arrived but got packed shortly after. If we're to come back to Poughkeepsie, we will definitely give La Cabanita another visit.
