Stopped by on a whim and saw a bunch of 9.99 specials including pan fried flounder, crispy chicken, and a few other dishes. Ordered some for home and food tasted good, probably better eating there. The waiter was super nice, while waiting offered a seat and tea. Though i think they may need an additional waiter, saw people come in and had to wait a minute to see the waiter to get a table.

Open 3 months, both phone numbers not working, menu pricing wrong, owner and his buddies blasting cigs in the restaurant getting wasted before noon. Truly amazing.Get the mapo tofu it's very very good. Kitchen knows what they are doing.Vegetarian options: All of them are incidentally vegan. It's Chinese food.

The food is so good and mind blowing. The service was amazing and the food was delivered quickly. The plating is fantastic and everything was fancy. The ambiance was great! It was so quiet. Definitely worth it and I would like to come back. Also, they had very fresh fruit as dessert.

We came here on Thanksgiving night after finding that many other restaurants nearby were closed or closing early. Such a good choice! The restaurant was warm, clean, welcoming, and with plenty of space. There was one person serving everyone in the restaurant but despite the limited staffing, he was quick and efficient, helping guests with seating accommodations, bringing extra sauces for foods, and answering all our questions about the food. Mapo Tofu: They were accommodating enough to make it without the meat, which I'm very appreciative of. Honestly one of the best mapo tofus I've had in NYC. It was tangy, peppery, and the tofu absorbed the flavor very well. Sometimes a sauce can be good but then you bite into the tofu and the center is still bland, but not the case here. It was flavored all the way through. Portion was also extremely generous for the price, we'll have leftovers for days. Dòu Miáo: Amazing!! Especially impressive because it seems like this isn't in season right now? I would be a much healthier person if I could eat dòu miáo here every day. It was just that perfect balance of salty, garlicky and crunchy, but is such a light dish that you can eat a lot of it before you get full.

If I could eat here everyday, I would. South River Restaurant reminds me of all the Chinese dishes I grew up eating at the top notch quality that was non-negotiable and a must for every successful restaurant. South River Restaurant is a hidden gem that I'm so glad we found next to our other fav place for Malaysian food. This is our go-to place for Chinese take-out, birthday celebrations, etc. Two thumbs up!

Modest looking place with a great kitchen making a mix of Cantonese, Fujianese and Szechuan dishes. We let the owner drive and had an amazing meal for an amazingly low price.

Saw the $9.99 and $12.95 specials outside and thought to give it a try. Wasn’t expecting much, for that price either the quality or the quantity should take a hit. Boy was I wrong, quality and quantity was much better than I expected. I recommend the stuffed tofu for $9.99 and the walnut shrimp for $12.95 (I’ve seen this dish go for $24+ at other restaurants). Very kind and attentive servers as well. I will be coming back for sure to try the other options!
