Aunt Rosie's is a SOLID restaurant with amazing food, high food quality, great value, and unfortunately, I think, it is totally underrated!! As you can see from the gap of time between this update and my previous review, 6 years have passed....not to say I haven't been back, but the food is so good, always meeting our high expectations, that I haven't felt the need to rehash the same story....but now, in the time of covid 19, I think it's time for a new review! Aunt Rosie's has continued to be open since the very first notification from the state that restaurants and bars needed to close. They easily transitioned to offering take out, which, I'm sure, is partly due to their proximity to Eastman School and the fact that a lot of people downtown who eat there during the week might be getting take out instead of staying to eat. As a result, they have all the bags, proper containers, 'extras' like napkins and take away utensils, and a very friendly and competent set of staff to service orders. They were actually the first place we supported as soon as this all hit. 'Normally' we eat out several times a week, for lunch and dinner, and suddenly, the rug ripped out from under us, I was forced to cook! Lucky for me I know how to cook, so it wasn't terrible, but this was just a few days before St. Patrick's day, and we ALWAYS went out for our traditional corned beef, cabbage and potatoes dinner. We were actually really bummed at the prospect of missing this annual treat, until we saw Aunt Rosie's instagram post that they were offering full St. Paddy's day dinners for take away. "Supply limited" was all the motivation I needed to call immediately and secure a couple portions. At that time in mid March, restaurants were still letting customers enter the restaurant to pick up their food. I was met at the counter by a person wearing gloves - we weren't wearing masks at that point either. My food was in a bag lined up on the counter with numerous other bags (glad I ordered early!!) and the transaction was really easy. I had not paid in advance, so gave my card, paid, signed, and was out. Once at home, time to eat! But the food was less warm than I prefer, so we warmed everything up. Each plate was easily enough for two people - several thick slices of their house-made corned beef, delicious potatoes and cabbage, plus a nice chunk of soda bread and soft butter. I warmed up one plate and the two of us ate it; kept the second plate for the next day! Aunt Rosie's has a pretty extensive menu of options for take out, and they add new stuff all the time. I definitely recommend ordering from them and continuing to support local. And don't forget to add a tip to help out the workers who are suffering from the decline in business, lack of in-house dining, and reduced hours!

Casual, comfortable elegance. Food is above expectations and service is great. The location is perfect for the Eastman Theater.

Great Place, We went for the first time for lunch before a meeting close by. The food was fresh and simple and a nice portion. The prices were real and the service was as good as you want.

We stopped in for lunch recently. Some of us had the pizza. I had a pasta meal. I tried the a slice of each of the pizzas too. Wow it was good. The cost was much better than i thought. I was very impressed for a little lunch spot. When in downtown Rochester go and have a great lunch!

I love coming to this restaurant each time I come to Rochester to visit my sibling, who studies at Eastman. It’s such a cozy, comfortable restaurant with wonderful service. Their mushroom truffle pizza is the best pizza I’ve ever eaten!

Small, friendly cozy restaurant with delicious Italian specialties. Within walking distance of Eastman Theater.

Selfishly, one of my favorite restaurants in downtown rochester, that i don't want to share, to protect getting a lunch table. Really authentic and fresh Italian focused ingredients and menu. Frequent and appealing specials weekly, with one of the best thin crust pizza preparation options in the city. The salad choices are healthy, fun and diverse.

Been meaning to check out Aunt Rosie's for a while. I went with a friend and it's best to make dinner reservations on the weekend because they do get quite busy as the place is small. I would give them 3.5 stars as the food was good but the service was less to be desired. We had to keep calling the wait staff and though she was apologetic for the wait of the food, she didn't do anything to really help with the situation. Like when we were waiting a long time for the bread to start off with, she said "well I have been asking the kitchen for your bread and they just ended up giving me your salads instead". We thought that was a bit unprofessional of her to say that more saying it wasn't her fault the service was so slow. We were happy we left enough time to eat as we had theatre performance to go to afterwards. Aunt Rosie's; though your food was delicious, the customer service needs to improve and there needs to be better communication between the wait staff and the kitchen.
