Donuts are good but it's the kind of place where you walk in and the folks at the counter say exactly nothing. You could be standing ready to order and they won't say "what can I get you?" just stare like you broke the law for walking in. I don't ask for much, but "hello" or some acknowledgement that I'm at the register would be cool. I say this as 15 years in the service industry. Usually a sign that employees are underpaid or under appreciated.

Every 18 to 24 months I get wooed into trying Boxcar again, typically by their Instagram :) This time I spent $20 bucks on a half dozen, four of which only vaguely hinted at the flavors they were supposed to be. The pear ginger fritter was overproofed and oily, without a hint of ginger. The rum raisin had nice rum raisins in and otherwise ordinary cake donut. The Apple fig was actually pretty good, and had nice chunks of apples and a strong fig flavor. The eggnog cake donut was pretty good, and had a nice if faint eggnog flavor. The last two were so forgettable that I have literally forgotten what they were. Don't get me wrong, their donuts aren't *bad*... They're just never particularly good.. and they're charging artisan-level priced. For your money, if you want a wide variety of flavors go to East Ridge Donuts - or if you're into a classic cake donut you cannot beat Schutts Cider Mill.

I got a box for the hospital for the nurses who helped take care of my newborn. It was a hit. Unfortunately so much of a hit I didn't get any. Will have to find time to go back and try.

I love these donuts! I think they always have such delicious flavors. I have had quite a few and I think my favorite will always be their cannoli one. The staff here is always super friendly and helpful when asking questions about the menu. I do think they are expensive, but the sheer size of the donuts makes up for it. I did have to dock one star for their horrible parking situation. It is very unfortunate and I think I would go here more if they had a better way to park. Other than that, this place is wonderful.

Yum! These donuts are so delicious. It wasn't too busy for Saturday around noon. They had plenty of donuts left. I would recommend a sampler 6 pack. You need to try their fry donuts. Their menu is rotating so always expect something different! They also serve coffee and apparently this spot turns into a bar at night! There is a parking lot, some street parking, and the public market parking lot close by. Prices aren't too bad in my opinion! I will be back when I'm in town again.

Best donuts in Rochester and some of the best I've had anywhere. I love that they post their donuts for the week on social media, both name and pictures, it's really helpful. Constantly rotating and creative selection, it's a weekend tradition for my and my daughter now.

My first experience was great! I came late morning and waited little to no time for my donut and coffee. I really like the building and vibe of the space. It's very spacious with a lot of seating and tables. On a late Saturday morning it was nice to see families out together. I'm coming back soon!

I've tried their donuts a few times and have never been impressed. What did impress me though was their Bloody Mary. It is definitely home made (not from a mix) and came with a skewer of olives and mini donut holes! The mini donut holes were good. On this visit I tried their sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich which was mediocre. It lacked flavor and seemed like something you could buy from a convenience store. Also sampled their chocolate donut and it tasted like fryer oil. There were 3 workers and 3 orders ahead of us and the service to get our drinks took forever. It took 10-15 minutes for my Bloody Mary and it took about 7 for my friend to get his coffee which was one of their alcohol canned coffees that they pour into a glass and top with whipped cream. Ambiance is cold and sterile; not very inviting.
This is by far the best donuts i've had. The donuts are always fresh, and so unique! I've never seen donuts like these. They are so crispy on the outside and so soft inside! I would 10/10 recommend these to anyone and everyone. They have vegan and gluten free options too! Please check them out, they will impress you!

Love the doughnuts, but you can't make customers wait 20+ mins to get two doughnuts out of the case. Just crazy for something that should otherwise be grab and go.

This place was amazing!!! We had these donuts at a friends wedding so we decided to come and check out the actual location. These donuts were absolutely amazing!!! I also had a latte which was also very good. Highly recommend. My daughter came along and she had a lot of fun trying to find all the dinosaurs that are hidden around the shop. We will definitely be coming back again! There is free parking across the street. And there is some indoor seating and also a few tables and chairs outside as well.

Like a fun ex girlfriend, this hipster donut shop is pretty but pricey ?. That said, the creations made here are aesthetically pleasing with new designs being offered frequently. Most donuts here seem to be yeast based which may be why the texture is more fluffy then the crunch you might get from traditional fry cakes. Don't make the same mistake I did by coming to this shop after noon and expecting any type of variety to still be available ☺️.

Boxcar donuts is up in my top three most frequent places to grab a latte or a cappuccino! Between the quality of the beans and the quality of the milk, they have a sweet flavor without adding sweeteners. ? Although, if you want to add some sweetness, I highly recommend their vanilla flavor or maple flavor (or both, together!).Favorite donuts? The cannoli donut (hands down!), the powdered twist, and the cinnamon sugar twist.
