You can't judge a book by its cover! The food in this place is really good, even though the place looks really basic inside and out. We were looking for a quick lunch that had some vegetarian options, and stopped in for a quick bite at lunchtime. Fast, friendly service from the waitress. We had the Vegetarian platter, which comes with tabouleh, hummus, falafel with tahini sauce, and pita bread. Each of the items on a platter was better than I've had other Mediterranean style restaurants. The falafel were served steaming hot, crunchy on the outside and softer inside. Be forewarned: it's cash only. However, I'd spend my last $3 on their delicious baklava, which we ordered to go! This is a no frills place - but the food was fast, fresh, good and reasonable. I'd definitely stop in again or place a to-go order for lunch.

I like Massoud's but don't love it. The falafel pita is decent, but the falafel itself has yet to come out truly fresh out of the fryer and, to my taste, doesn't quite measure up to a couple of the other places in town. In general, the food is good and the service kind; I'll happily go back for lunch if I need to stick to the Bank Street area or a friend requests it. However, Utica is lucky to be rich in Lebanese cuisine and I prefer a few other spots over Massoud's.

ONLY ACCEPTS CASH! I believe this place is only open Monday to Friday 10 AM - 2 PM. Massouds Cafe is located between several shops on Bank Pl and is somewhat hidden because the sign isn't that visible. My friend and I decided to have lunch at Massouds Cafe when Emmie's Global Cuisine was closed. As you walk in, the counter is to the left with tables arranged straight and to the left. Restaurant has about 10 tables that were pretty filled for lunch. Menu is divided up by soups and salads, main courses, sandwiches, and dips. Food: Grape Leaves (3/5, Savory ground meat, rice and spices in grape leaves): This was my first time trying grape leaves, which were just okay. My companion informed that it wasn't the best since he grew up around Mediterranean food. Grape leaves provide a lot of flavor, for it kind of reminded me of this Korean dish I cannot remember the name of. Half of the 6 grape leaves were falling apart, maybe they did not place it on ice after making them? Massouds Cafe offers vegetarian grape leaves and grape leaves with ground meat. Tzatziki Dip (2/5, Yogurt dip with cucumbers and garlic served with pita bread): The consistency of this dip was more liquid like/yogurt like than what I would like it to be. The pita bread that was served with this was delicious! It was better than the regular pita bread they give you! I wouldn't order this dip here. Fried Kibbeh (2/5, Lean ground beef fried with spices, dressed topping would be 0.50$ more): I did not expect a ball of lean ground beef to be inside my sandwich, literally the size of a baseball. I was thinking of something more like VertsKebap, where the meat is cut up into pieces. I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would since the kibbeh was falling apart after some bites. Baklava (3/5): Decent. Didn't find much that made it stand out. Just A-OK for me. Rice Pudding (5/5): Maybe it was that it was my first time trying this, but it was delicious especially with the ground cinnamon sprinkled and the cool pudding. I personally would have ordered another one for myself. Great balance between the rice and pudding, neither was overpowering the other. This is pretty light compared to Baklava. I'm not 100% sure about an ATM machine inside, but I think there was one inside now. Would I come back? I would to try its lamb gyro and to order the pita bread that comes with the Tzatziki Dip.
