Really awful experience at The Blue Jay today. When we arrived, there was a line and a sign telling people to seat themselves. We did, as did others, but we were then chastised for not waiting to be seated. We ordered at the same time as the others who sat down when we did (and who were also chastised), but waited an hour for our food. When we inquired about why we hadn’t been served, we were told they were slammed and were filling orders as they were received. It took another 15 minutes for our food to come out. We never got a refill on coffee during the entire wait or a visit from the waitress to ask if we needed anything or explain why it was taking so long. When the food finally came, again, there was no apology or explanation, no acknowledgement at all that we’d been waiting so long that everyone else we’d come in with had been replaced by people who were beginning to get food. We know mistakes get made but to forget our check or get so slammed that only our food doesn’t come out deserves an apology. And the food wasn’t even that good. Definitely skip this place.

Good food at a cozy eatery. Fast service. Not too loud. Save money by paying cash. Charge cards have 4% added to cover expense. Ample parking in the area. Meters take coins and cards. Walking distance to nearest library.

My favorite place in Northside hands down. I'm a sucker for diners, but the atmosphere and friendly staff really make this a great place to sit in. The Blue Jay Breakfast (eggs, potatoes, and optional meat) is both delicious and a great price! I get it every time I go.

Excellent friendly quaint family run diner. Good food and friendly service. Love slipping occasionally away for a late b'fast ...when it's quiet, a zen that reminds me of diners w my Dad as a boy.
