Normally I love this place. this specific one used to be pretty nice. but today I went and between the hostess laying down on the bar stools like she was taking a nap (!!) and generally acting like she just didn't want to be there, the Lil Jon and Pitbull pumping through the speakers on a Sunday afternoon( and yes I normally listen to both of them but I was hoping for a little bit more chill on a sunday), the barely cooked french fries and the dry unappealing Bland fish, and the loud slinging of the F word right around the corner in the kitchen... this was not an enjoyable meal today. I woke up today thinking man I haven't had fish and chips in a while. I think I'll go to the bag of nails. they always have good stuff. nope! not on this day good sir or ma'am. The only person who was actually doing his job was the waiter so much respect to him. it was very quiet in there so it's not like they were super busy. they didn't even bother to answer the phone when it was ringing at first. my waiter hustled over there to go answer it and then they finally answered it. I've been to the new Whitehall Bag of Nails and it was much nicer in the service was much better. I don't know what's going on at this one but they've definitely taken a dive. I know it's Sunday and nobody wants to be at work but when I walk in as the customer that's not the vibe or the service I should be getting. none of us should be getting that. I would love to write a great review as I've done for other restaurants today but I just can't do it. as they say, "this ain't it champ". I'm not somebody who wants to see somebody get reamed but it should definitely be a training opportunity to either become better at your job or get back on track if you've lost your energy for it. I just wanted to come in today and enjoy a really good meal a fish and chips and a chill environment on a nice Sunday afternoon. take in the ambiance. enjoy my food and converse with some friendly staff. it's just getting hard to find good service and good product out there anymore and I hate to see a great place like Old Bag of Nails falling into that trap as well. regardless, I'll play it safe and stick with the new Whitehall location from now on.
