I've been here many times and it has always been so good, there's even a great review from me on here on my alternate email....but this last time was a disaster which made me incredibly sad being that my family was visiting from TN for the Eclipse, and out of all the restaurants in Delaware I chose Ashai to take them too,First off, I order 2 crazy shrimp rolls , as I always do, but something was different this time..the seaweed wrap inside the sushi was tough and it was staying in one whole long piece and sliding down my throat and choking me ..this happened 5 times before I called the manager over and showed him the 6 inch long pieces of tough seaweed that kept choking me, and he was incredibly rude, he said I was lying, talked down to me like I was a child, said it must be the first time I've ever eaten sushi...which I've eaten for 40 years and NEVER had that happen, NEVER!!Next, we get the check, I pay it in cash, they bring the change, which was $30 and was sitting on the little credit card dish thing while my family and I continued to visit and socialize for about 30 minutes..we get ready to go and I look to where the change was , so I could make sure the server received it for his tip .it wasn't there..so I called him over and said, " I just want to make sure you got your tip" he said no, I didn't get any tip..so what?? It was literally sitting there and the only person who went near it was our server and the manager that had talked down to me, and it's gone???This was a mortifying experience, so what do I do?? Let my family see me get up and not tip the server?? I have no idea what these people are going thru , but stealing from your customers is a bad way to earn more business! Me and my bf go here at least once a month, and have referred many of our friends to go eat there, it's really sad that now I will drive 50 miles to a different Japanese Steakhouse to keep from ever having to go back there!!Shame on all of you!!!!

I honestly wish I could give more than just 5 stars on this review. 2 years ago I became allergic to sesame and that was one of the saddest days of my life… I haven’t been able to find a sushi or Japanese restaurant that was willing to accommodate to my allergy, but this place did. The woman who helped with my takeout order was sooooo nice and helpful. She also thought it was funny how excited I was to get sushi for the first time in 2 years! That woman alone gets a solid 7 out of 5 stars for her customer service and overall friendliness.Now let’s talk about the food… not only was the sushi made to order, but it was delicious! I got the buckeye roll, sunshine roll, and bake scallop roll. The buckeye roll wasn’t for my taste buds but was still good. But the other two rolls…… it literally tasted like I took a bite out of heaven… they were made perfectly!Long story short, I will DEFINITELY be coming back!Dietary restrictions: Can accommodate to sesame allergy.

My family tried this place for the first time and we will not be back. Our filet mignon wasn't the best cut and had chewy parts which was disappointing considering the cost. Our chef did a good job cooking the food, but there was no show other than the volcano. Another disappointment since it's part of the reason people go to hibachi. Our waiter was new, but we were only one of two tables and he never came over until the manager called him out. Then he brought everyone's bill and containers while we were eating without asking if we needed anything else or dessert. I was hoping to celebrate my son's birthday, but at that point I just wanted to leave. Our bill was a headache too, were charged $24 dollars for our nine year olds kids meal! We asked to substitute the rice and sherbet for noodles, which they did, but charged us an additional $7 dollars without informing us of that additional charge. We told the waiter we had a question about our bill and he put a finger up then walked away. We sat for five minutes before flagging down the manager. She was rather nasty about it arguing that "he's new". We said if we knew about the charge we would have ordered her an adult meal for the larger portions. She said she would take off the charge, but then she returned with our new bill and said she would only take off $3 dollars. At that point I took the kids to the car and let my husband take care of it. He said she was very rude.

Avoid this restaurant! Overpriced and overcooked food. Understaffed so you wait and wait. Oh and no sushi so you had only one choice. The side salad was in a bowl of water down dressing and more like soup. Soup was water with no flavor. Think my “steak” lost last week at the horse race track. Over salted and no taste.Only credit card machine “didn’t work” so they said to go drive a mile to Walmart and use their ATM machine. Obviously avoiding paying taxes via cash payments.Find anywhere else to eat.Parking: This restaurant is in a strip mall !!!

Sushi was fresh and good but this might not be the place to go if you have dietary restrictions. They talked the talk regarding my wheat allergy but I was sick for two days after eating here. Been wondering if they served me low sodium soy sauce and just said it was gluten free or if the imitation crab California roll has wheat ingredients.I didn't take the soup that came with my meal because it's made with soy sauce and didn't sub anything for it but they still tacked an extra dollar on the bill for some reason. Shoulda asked why. Whole thing was kind of a weird experience.Dietary restrictions: Had a wheat allergy reaction after eating here

I had lunch here today. The restaurant was empty. I had to ask them to turn on the hibachi grill. They wanted to cook my food in the back of the house. The steak had a funny taste. One hour later I am sick with diarrhea. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant. They have attempted a mandatory 18% gratuity in the past.

Food was average for a Japanese steak house, nothing special. The main reason for the low rating is the MANDATORY 18% gratuity on ALL ORDERS, even takeout. There is also a 'convenience fee' of $1 for online orders, but you can't even pay online- you have to pay at the restaurant. I'm not sure what is convenient about that. They need to realize that a gratuity is for good service, not a way to shake down your customers for an additional 18%. Won't be back.
