Gambier Deli Reviews
Great breakfasts and coffee. Love the place.
I came into the Gambier Deli in a wonderful mood - looking to have a quick lunch. When I asked a man (with a beard) behind the counter a simple question, he became rude and defensive. Anyway, this place offers overpriced bland food and the people behind the counter need some help with manners. Void it you can, try the coffee house down the street or the Village Inn - you'll be happy there.

Unfortunately, the experience here this morning was one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve had. My family and I decided to get coffee and food from Wiggins and food from the Gambier Deli. Yes, we got food from BOTH establishments. I have been here many times, and it has been decent in the past. They sat outside and I went in to purchase food for everyone at the table. As I was inside ordering and purchasing with hard earned money, an incredibly rude gentleman with a gray beard, I’m assuming the owner, told my mom, my aunt and my 18 month son they needed to leave. My mom came in to inform me what happened, and I asked for the food to go. The cashier was very nice, but the gray bearded man clearly has major issues with over confidence in his products and services. I purchased chicken and coleslaw for the women, and a blueberry muffin for the toddler. I waited patiently for my food as he was walking heavy footed around the deli and was completely disrespectful towards I’m assuming was his wife when she was trying to talk to him about the situation that happened. When she apologized to me as I was leaving, I said it was ok but I was a paying customer. He then proceeded to yell loudly at me, saying I was only one paying customer. I’m sorry, but when is it an issue that one customer pays for food for an entire table? I was purchasing food to share with everyone at the table, which included a small child. If you took your wife, children and grandkids to a restaurant and paid for them to have food, yet was asked to leave because they themselves didn’t pay for the food...how would you feel? Angry, no? Of course because you just spent money on food for them. Being a small business owner myself as is my mom and aunt, we are 100% in support of small businesses. That’s why we came to Gambier to help support a local mom and pop business! Yes, we bought from BOTH businesses. Supported both locations. However, service is what keeps places in business. Especially when the products you’re serving to the public are comparable to Panera, your service needs to go above and beyond. That didn’t happen today. The gray bearded man didn’t go above and beyond to make sure our experience at the deli was pleasant, he went out of his way to be rude, disrespectful, and condescending. Such a shame. We will not supporting this business again.
