This was a gem. I wish we still had diners like this back home. I would eat there way too often.

We have been coming here for years and have always loved it. There have been several changes made according To the manager. The potato soup today was like paste and none of the three of us ate it. We only ate a portion of our sandwiches because they just weren't good. The manager took a dollar and change off of our bill! How generous! Will definitely be looking for a different place to eat in Mount Vernon

Great decor and atmosphere-think 60s diner. Has to be the busiest breakfast joint in town-there was a constant line. Breakfast was very good; the omelet was huge, easily shareable. Our waitress, Jamie, was fast, efficient and so personable.

Southside is a local treasure. I love their 50s theme. They serve a great breakfast. Their servers are all very nice and do a great job. They have amazing pies and desserts if you need one for your next party.

When traveling in new areas, always look for the diners when you get hungry, they usually don't disappoint and this place was spot on in every category. You know the food is good when the child in the party devours his cheeseburger before the adults are even halfway through their meals. My partner had the veggie gyro with a fruit cup instead of fries. She said it was really good. It was messy so it must have been good, because the messier the better. I had the patty melt (with gravy)and fries. The gravy must be a regional thing because I've never had it before. My melt was excellent, crunchy and gooey cheese with just the right amount of sauteed onions. The fries were nice and crispy. The child ordered the brownie sundae and for once the dessert got the best of him because it was so huge! I would definitely eat here again just so I could sample more of their menu.

The Southside Diner defines the genre of the American diner. Breakfast (which is served all day for people like me who like breakfast food at any time of day other than breakfast time) starts out bright and early and the classic comfort food menu goes strong until closing. Sundays are extra special with stick to your ribs like Grandma used to make dinners available so nobody leaves feeling hungry. If you want a classic burger, fries and shake (served in the metal container) you are in luck also. Desserts? You better believe it! In short there is something for everyone and it is all done well and for reasonable prices. Would you rather eat these comfort foods at home? Ask for carryout. I heartily recommend the Southside Diner and I'll see you there eating the Blue Plate Special for breakfast at 4:00 in the afternoon!

This is the trifecta! Not many places you can go these days and find great food, staff that is attentive and a relaxing atmosphere where u could have a standing Wednesday date night or a Saturday birthday. I would highly recommend taking a step back in time and going to Southside diner!Parking: there are about 40 spots up by the building and then. gravel parking lot directly behindKid-friendliness: this is an all around family place. there are tons of nostalgic things to keep the kiddos busy playing a game of eye spy why you wait. They have kids menu high chairs and carseat slings.
