Used to be good ..now the menu and service suck..Waited 1hr and a half for a fish sandwich and fries.After 2 martinis apiece we were done with that ridiculousness..We will never go back again..sad ..used to be a good spot..

Local Tavern fish bar does not have much to offer. All the best seafood dishes are no longer on the menu. Discontinued the bang bang shrimp appetizer, the lobster bisque, shrimp and grits dinner, devil eggs and more. Disappointed in the seafood selection. Came in on Friday night at 5:15, still waiting at 6:30 for a fish sandwich and fries. Don't go here if you actually want to eat

A hidden gem in downtown Painesville. The food is always delicious and fresh. The lobster bisque soup is one the very best we've ever had! It's cozy in the winter and chill in the summer sitting outside on the patio. Always a great choice!

Used to LOVE the fish & chips at fish bar, but it has changed. Portions much smaller, breading extremely salty. The fries were undercooked and limp, miss the shoestrings, and the 1 oz bite of Coleslaw is good, but the portion is so small it doesn't even deserve to be called a side. It's just not the same Fish Bar it used to be as far as the food, at least as far as the fish and chips are concerned.

Great food and service! I had the fish and chips. I wish I lived closer to this place to make it a go to lunch and dinner spot. But when I am near Painesville, I will always try to stop here.

We have passed by this establishment many times and finally decided to drop in. Although the name is apparently Local Tavern...the signs everywhere say Fish Bar! So it took me a sec to find it on Yelp! The other surprise was the inside decor and ambiance!! It is really charming and has a music theme with guitars and posters on the wall. They have music on the weekends and a server showed me the patio with a stage outside for bands to play in the summer!! My hub got the perch sandwich with tomato bisque. I got the bisque and a side of fries. The idea of the perch sandwich with special sauce and bacon sounded great... but the perch smelled and tasted Super fishy...ugh. So we are guessing it was old..? The bisque was good with a good flavor. They had space heaters all over the restaurant..? Maybe their heat had gone out? We never took our coats off while we ate and my hub said the men's bathroom was freezing!!!! Our server was really good and others that worked there were also very friendly and helpful- showing us around. This is definitely the best kept secret of Painesville! We will go back- try some of their other dishes and see if they get the heat fixed. We can't wait for warm weather to try out the patio!
