I’ve been to the Balmoral since the 1980s.I went recently and wasReally disappointed with the meal.It has went downhill as regards to the service and the food.Gone are the “real”French fries and replaced with cheap frozen fries.Such a dissapoitent experience

Ordered the halibut, poutine and the grouper and chips special. Pretty disappointing. The halibut was edible the grouper was not. Too much oil/grease. The fries were okay and the poutine looked like it had some kind cheese sauce vs mozzarella chunks. Sorry, won’t be back.

To be fair I have ordered from them twice only because sometimes you can get one bad order but in this case not only was the first order bad the second was even worse. Not sure if they are using lard to cook their fish and chips but it felt that way. Very greasy fries and fish not sure it was Haddock. For two orders of fish and chips was $36.10. Quite expensive and was horrible. Fish had no taste and texture very bad. Batter was just non edible. Fries were just simply full of some kind of cheap grease and very disgusting. I really hate to bash family businesses but in my opinion, walk 30 yards to MacKenzies and get great fish and chips on Friday for $12.99 and is amazing. Skip this place its not worth the money and you will regret it.

I had a satisfying experience overall, there were a couple of aspects that left me somewhat disappointed. Let's start with the positives. The fish and chips themselves were very good. The fish was fresh, flaky, and perfectly cooked, with a crisp and flavorful batter. The chips were golden and delicious, providing a satisfying accompaniment to the fish. It was evident that care had been taken in preparing this classic dish, and it left me satisfied in terms of taste and quality. However, there were a few drawbacks that prevented me from giving this place a higher rating. Firstly, the side of beets was a letdown. They appeared to be canned beets, lacking the freshness and vibrancy that one would expect. The flavor was mediocre, and they didn't add much to the overall dining experience. It was a missed opportunity to showcase a more elevated and homemade side option. Additionally, the coleslaw was disappointing. It lacked the crunch and freshness that make coleslaw enjoyable. The texture was limp, and the flavor was rather bland. It felt like a lackluster addition to the meal, which was unfortunate considering the potential for a zesty and complementary side dish. On a positive note, the service at the fish and chips place was friendly and efficient. The staff members were attentive and ensured that I had everything I needed. The wait times were reasonable, and they were accommodating to any special requests or inquiries. In terms of pricing, the fish and chips were reasonably priced for the portion sizes and quality. It provided good value for money, considering the well-cooked fish and tasty chips. However, the lackluster sides somewhat diminished the overall value proposition. While the fish and chips were a standout, the underwhelming canned beets and lackluster coleslaw were disappointments. With some improvements in the side options, this place has the potential to offer a more well-rounded and satisfying dining experience.

The chicken fingers seem like they were purchased at nofrills, the fries were soggy and fish dripping with oil.... Waste of money for my children and myself, and during these hard times it hurts to throw money away.... ?

I selected this place based on the good reviews but I must have visited on an off night. Batter was soggy and the fries tasted like frozen. Very disappointing meal for the $20 price tag.

Ordered the grouper and chips. It was ok. The fries(aka chips) were well done. Wasn't over cooked. Never had grouper like this before.Staff is friendly. Place is nicely decorated.

Best fish and chips around; scallops, gravy and mushy peas are a must try too.

We ordered the light and fluffy battered halibut with a side of thick cut fries with a side of coleslaw and gravy. The gravy was a great add-on to the fries we had! The coleslaw was fine (does anyone realllllly like coleslaw? Haha)It was $41 for two boxes of fish and chips (1 piece of halibut each) + the gravy + the coleslaw. A little pricey, but I would go again :)
