Friendly group of customers and hilarious bartenders make for a good place to drop by for a few cold ones

Visited the Frigate on Friday for a party. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Regulars sat at the bar and some people came in for what I assume is their usual Friday night dinner. There is a good variety of beers. The staff checked often, cleared tables quickly and happily answered any questions. Everybody who ordered food was very happy and the portions were large. The sauce with the pretzels was a particular hit. Covid precautions are followed at all times.

We arrived at the restaurant at around 12pm on a Saturday. It wasn't extremely busy. We were a party of 12 and there were maybe 4 more tables all together including our party. We sat outside on the patio. The lights in the restaurant were not turned on so it was dark when using the bathroom. I assume they didn't turn on the lights to save on electric costs since it's covid and many restaurants are struggling. The waitress was the only one working and she was extremely polite and apologetic. She was the only one working all the tables, so we understood that it must have been extremely stressful for her. Her service was great and she was extremely calm even though I'm sure it was a lot to handle. We waited about 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food after we placed our order. We were forgiving and pretty patient since we all understood that there was probably only one or two chefs working in the kitchen. The reason why I'm giving this a one-star is because even after waiting almost 1.5 hours for our food, it came out wrong. We had asked for soft and runny eggs for the Benedict, but (as you can see from the picture) it was a well done egg. We didn't send it back and ate it because we didn't want to wait again. Another friend ordered a breakfast platter (his food came out 30 minutes after everyone got theirs) and there was hair in it so that was sent back to the kitchen--it was remade pretty quickly though and his food came back after 15 minutes. The sandwich was pretty good. The chicken was juicy and there was a lot of great flavour to the sandwich. The bread wasn't soggy and didn't fall apart either. Everyone agreed that the tater tots were amazing and way better than the French fries. I would definitely recommend the tater tots.

Stay away! Larry Isaacs of the Firkin Group of Pubs said today on CP24 that he has no appetite for ensuring his guests and staff show a vaccine certificate...not worth dying or killing your kids for a pint...wonder if they're equally uncommitted to any other public health and safety measures in the kitchen?

I've been here a couple of times and the service and food have been great! Love the pesto chicken club and their poutine is great!

Suuuper oily shrimp and calamari.Lava cake had a weird after taste, the ice cream that came with it just tasted cheap.Caesar salad was small for $9, but it was good. The saving grace was the haddock - would recommend.Overall the restaurant was expensive with more misses than hits. But I'd probably buy the haddock again.

The staff here is so nice! We wanted to watch the basketball playoffs and there were no TVs setup on the patio yet, so they (s/o Christine) rolled a TV over to the window for us
