We enjoyed an evening here with friends. Excellent friendly service and good food. We shared the bruschetta starter. One of the best we have tasted, with tomatoes, cheese, onions and mixed herbs on warm baguette, served with a thin sauce/vinaigrette . I easily finished my plate of butter chicken, the others ordered the fish and chips, which they enjoyed, too. Guinness , Perth lager and decaff. coffee were our drinks. It was easy to converse, as the place wasn't too busy. On Fridays they have local entertainment, around 7 pm. We'll be back!

Amazing service here!Food was very delicious - the pub fries were perfectly cooked, yummy gravy, and fish was very tasty.Sweet potato fries were thick-cut, and not as crispy as I would have liked, but still tasty.Perfectly poured Guinness, and parking available in back.Would love to see a few more (local) ciders available. Love the window seats to watch passerby’s.Parking: Dedicated parking lot at back entrance.

Ordered take out wings today. While not cheap, they are well proportioned, (Ie quite large), and and are nice and crispy. This is my new go-to wing place in Carleton Place. Well done St. James Gate!

Had the pleasure of sitting on the patio in the sunshine on the afternoon of Pumpkin Fest, 2023. With a musician making great music on the sidewalk and families with kids and dogs on leash, Carleton Place seemed like a bustling little hive of activity. The staff at the Gate were all very friendly and provided great service. Lots of brews on tap and a fairly wide-ranging menu (although I didn't have anything from the kitchen, the food looked great) ...A great spot to enjoy a cool beverage and watch the day go by ....

Honestly we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and overall tastiness. We had fish and chips and the bangers & mash. Both great. Just a heads up: not many options for GF.

Dropped in for a late lunch Sunday past. Must have been an off day. Soup of the day was not available, nor was the Shepard's pie. Ordered hamburgers as an alternative. Both were dry and tough... begrudged spending the money we did for such poor fare. Waitress was pleasant enough, but service was slow. Not in any rush to return.
