Look, don't expect a 'normal' service, this is a very unique place. You come here for the special sauce, fresh in-house ingredients and the low price for AYCE hong kong style hot pot (and you can't choose the soup base)The owner has rules and does get vocal when you don't follow them (i mean hes been doing this for like 30-40 years)? The dude is tired but otherwise pretty chill. Just wait for your table to be ready and dont touch the stove settings cuz it might cause a short circuit. Service is prompt and food is served fast. Everything is freshly made everyday and you really can't find that value for that price ($30~$35). Make sure to scoop up a big portion of that special Chilli sauce and mix it with a soy sauce. I typically use (7:3 ratio of Chilli oil:soy sauce). It looks spicy but it's not. This is definitely one of those places where you will always remember and come back to waterloo for.Definitely try: dumplings, meat balls, chicken, beef, shrimp, slush drinks served in pitchers. All very fresh

I used to go here all the time until the management switch over. It was an excellent introduction into hotpot and the owner was a nice old man. I guess his ungrateful, spoiled son took over and is running the restaurant down to obscurity. After the switch over, prices doubled, quality didn't. It was a full restaurant at that time but I can't imagine their filling up anymore. Now reading the reviews, and particularly the owner's responses, it's about as clear as it can be that this restaurant is lost. Reputation is everything in this industry and loyal customers move on. Furthermore, being overtly proud and rude shames your father who actually built up this restaurant into all the success you have ever seen. Sorry that you were never taught that but it will catch up to you soon.I look forward to the next restaurant that will open up in this lot.~ update to respond to owner: I was paying $12-15 per person around 2005. I'll swing by and check in on your "line up" when I get a chance. I'll even snap a picture for you :). I'm not worried about being a member because false prestige isn't my thing.

I have been eating here for more than ten years, and the tastes vary. I really like their dumplings and chicken. This is the only restaurant where I don’t think it’s strange to have chicken shabu-shabu. The chicken is very tender.

Everyone knows whether to love or not ? Many times I drive two hours just to have this one bite, and I even have to take special sauce back to Toronto and eat Good Friends yyds Ascension Is it possible for those who say that the boss has a bad attitude to reflect on themselves? Haha, I like to listen to the boss’s story about driving the M4 drifting the most.

Horrible. After reading the reviews and with my experience, there is no way that I will ever go back. I don't deal well with abusive persons. Everyone should be respected and you don't get that at this restaurant.

Members only, kinda weird that they're on Google Maps. Also the owner is very rude, look at their responses to potential customers who were disappointed and wasted their time. They could easily put their name as, "Leung Yue Hot Pot - Members Only."It's also funny that the owner is unaware that not all people work on a Dayshift and many people are up at 2am. It's also funny that they think unless someone reviews a place write away they aren't entitled to a review. :)

Very good restaurant, I still want to eat after eating. The most important thing is that the boss's emotional intelligence is a bit high, so I suggest you stay away.

If you like her, take her to Good Friends.Either she blocks you that night, or she remembers you for the rest of her life.If you hate her, take her to Good Friends.Either she can't wait until she's gone, or she doesn't hate you anymore. If you are alone, you can also go to Good Friends.Remember to pay for two people at ten o'clock in the evening.Whether you drive a Bentley, Geely or Xiali,In front of you is the same Texas beef and water soup base.No matter how many miles you drive,As long as you are finally in line,You will have enough confidence to brag for a yearHe sprayed her black and let the bullets flyOur Good Friends still has long queues every day______Rude, arrogant, ignorant, ridiculous, messy, you name it - this is probably the most controversial restaurant in KW (probably even in Ontario). When you see an iphone release date like lineup in front of the ancient door before 5pm, you got the right place.Boss only respects people with good manner, reasonable requests and well sometimes hot-looking.Yet, probably the best hotpot you can have in Canada, here it is. All beef is shipped from a private farm in Texas owned by the owner's friend back in HK. All sauces, dumplings, meat balls, and fried gluten crackers are made on site by owner's wife. Many years passed, and so far this small restaurant has accumulated so many negative reviews, just as many as those loyal customers ranging from UW/WLU Grads to RIM former employees. And yes, legendary stories about the boss....This reminds me something. In China, there is a kind of eatery called dirty eatery (aka, dirty eatery). Those eateries hide in dark alleys adjacent to a public washroom with stinky smell. There are absolutely NO service at all. Owner gets mad at you or gets you mad, or both. They often close way early or even shut off for a day or two randomly without notice(cuz they are sold-out). Enough said, the only thing making them last forever is their authentic tasty food. These places could be easily out of business on any single day according to Canadian standards, but most of them survived by many generations, just as their clients do.For myself? I just want good food, and the rest doesn't really matter, I am no longer a young child caught by fancy stuff.Long Live Leung Yue. 25 years have passed, now looking forward to another 25 years of amazing life with KW. Please, keep our Chinese statue. I know social media doesn't, just as the Boss does not even understand instagram, xiaohongshu, Weibo etc...as long as they still know their recipe, they do not lack customers. Also to those negative people, please give yourself a chance by paying more attention to food. I know everyone expect to be treated as a King on King St. However, just as King also dies, life is short. That concludes my negative 5 star review which has an absolute personal bias. Find me another Chinese restaurant in Canada with such a brilliant character!

I highly recommend this restaurant. Although the boss has a bad temper, he is serious and super good. All the ingredients are carefully selected by the boss. You must try it.
