Pomelo Hat used to be one of my favourite boba places in the city, but unfortunately a few recent experiences has dramatically gone downhill. A big part of the negative experience came from the employees denying any issues in the drinks, even though myself and others have gone here often enough to know when something is significantly off. Recent orders taste watered down and lacking much flavour, which is a shame since I used to recommend this place to anyone.

My favorite bubble tea shop in Ottawa! Just be warned that their "regular sweet" is less sweet than most other bubble tea shops (coming from a 100% sweetness girly). Their food is so good! I tried the sushi next door (in the same shop) and it was decent, but the food at Pomelo Hat is very yummy! The pokè bowl with the sesame sauce is amazing! The dumplings were okay but the siu mai was so good! Can't wait to try their sandwiches next. Try to take a picture of all their promotions so you can get a good deal. One of the current ones is 10% off if you order online for pick up. The guy that is always working when I go is so super nice. I was alone at lunchtime and this couple took up the seating area so I just stood waiting for my food. He comes from the back and grabs me a chair to sit on while I waited. So kind!

The service was quick and fine. I bought a brown sugar bubble tea that flavour wise was great but lots of the bubbles had fallen apart. I wanted to stay for a bit to enjoy my drink but a “No soliciting” sign made it clear that the seating area wasn’t to be used? Would recommend this location for getting a little drink to takeout though.

Easily the best smoothie bowl my family has had in Ottawa. Lots of different base options to choose from and then you get to customize it with 4 additional toppings and a drizzle. We've tried probably half of their bases over a few visits and they've all been great. The kids really like the rose quartz option and the adults really like the planet hulk.The staff are very friendly and despite the place usually being quite busy, the bowls, bubble teas and iced coffees are made pretty quickly. On the occasion where we have had to wait, it's not an issue for us because it's always worth the wait.Tip: if you're ordering 3 or more bowls, put an order in through their website so you can walk in and pick up. Their site makes it really easy to order and customize.
My daughter knows I love taro bubble tea and she said Pomelo Hat makes the best taro bubble teas, so one day she got me one. It was a taro smoothie with tapioca and a cream layer on top. I could taste the real taro they used, not powder like at other places. It was delicious. I loved the creamy top layer and the chewy tapioca. The tapioca were brown sugar flavoured and I could really taste the brown sugar. One of the best taro bubble teas I've ever had!

My friend brought me to Pomelo Hat for bubble tea. She knew that I'd like a bubble tea joint that was exclusively local to Ottawa.This place has the most fascinating mixture of items on the menu to order from. It offers bubble tea. You can also get dim sum, which includes dumplings, har gow, siu mai, steamed custard buns, and spring rolls. In other words, it caters to folks like me who crave all these items all the time.The menu also offers sushi rice bowls. I don't know if it's exclusively Pomelo Hat offerings or if it's under Kiramaki's menu. Kiramaki Sushi shares the same space with Pomelo Hat.This store truly has everything I want and love. It's awesome.Here's the best part. Pomelo Hat has sparkling butterfly pea spritzer. OMG! I absolutely love drinks with bubbles. I didn't have to look any further. I got the tropical sunset butterfly pea sparkling spritzer with coconut jelly. Starbucks, eat your heart out with that drink name! My drink came in one size: large. I got it with less ice and no sugar (it's called minimal sweet here).My friend was kind to take me here, so the least that I could do was get the tab on her bubble tea. She chose a regular strawberry green tea QQ. She could have ordered every topping available on the menu, but she had composure and didn't break my bank.It's funny. I was so into taking photos of my drink with the various plant backdrops at this place that I completely forgot about my bag that I had left here. Oops! Luckily, we were only a few blocks away and nobody wanted my stuff. Technically, we dropped by twice this day.There is bar seating by the window. It's a fairly small space that it's more of a fetch-and-go place.We continued taking photos of our drinks outside. We then walked, sat, and chatted. My drink was so good. It was bubbly and cheerful. It had a cantaloupe base with a subtle sweetness to it. The coconut jelly provided a nice chewy contrast. My drink was so good and perfect on a hot summer day.My friend enjoyed her drink. With QQ drinks, they come with tapioca and your choice of any jelly. I thought that the flexibility was nice. We tend to take our bubble tea the same way, so she went no sugar and less ice, too.I never got around to coming back to try the dim sum. I had been craving dumplings during my vacation and other establishments that I had frequented satisfied that ongoing want. I'll need to come back here and give its all-day dim sum menu a try. This place is on Fantuan. I hope it still is when I come back for more. I loved my bubble tea. It was hard to find good bubbletea spots in ottawa after trying it for the time in toronto back in 2012.. highly recommend it!! Very rich, superb selection, its definitely in my top 5
