Didn't have any food, just drinks. It has a nice atmosphere somewhat like a British pub. It has tables by the front windows which open up quite a bit.

Stopped by just for drinks. Nice atmosphere, classic pub feel. Sat too close to the entrance on a cold day and felt a chill breeze every time someone walked in.

The food was alright. The place was kind of dead but that could be because it's winter and I went there on a Sunday. The server was very nice and friendly though.

Really like the Oak. My kind of place to go to. The bartender was awesome and the music was perfect. The food... I ordered the $23 lasagna. If you like Chef Boyardee, you love'll this. Was hoping for better quality and a better serving but this is what I got.I'm starving and I was craving pasta tonight so I ate it all. I love Chef Boyardee so it was comfort food for me. I'm sure when I become hungry again in an hour, paying $23 for something that I know was worth $5 will really annoy me.Oh well, live and learn.

Last night, my girlfriend and I were passing by and this bar was absolutely empty with literally zero costumer so we decided to go inside to have a beer at peace before heading home. We said hi and sat at the bar and as we were checking out the beers on tap, that toxicated guy (with a big belly and grey beard) behind the bar suddenly said “yeah I’m not serving you” in a repulsive way with a condescending look on his face. I asked him why what happened as both my gf and I were so confused and even stopped to think if I’ve been there before so I asked the guy when was I there and he started mumbling then said “2-3 weeks ago and you said your money is no good here, I know you, I’m not serving you…” and some more stuff that made as little sense. I made sure to ask him a couple more times if he was sure since I know I haven’t been there. I have never been more confused in my life! We just said no way we would spend anything in here anyways as we were walking out and his finale was “you said that the last time” (Added even more confusion!) SMH! No wonder there was absolutely zero customer while an identical bar across the street was fully packed. But also makes me wonder if it was racially motivated which is the only thing comes to my mind. What a bad look for the establishment! SMH

I am a regular patron at this pub, and I came here with a friend today (Wednesday September 20 in the afternoon) and I had a very disappointing experience. I am in my late 20s and my friend is in her 30s. The waitress came over and asked for our drinks orders, which we gave. Then she asked for our IDs. My friend left her wallet in the car, as I was going to pay for our drinks, therefore she didn’t have her ID on her. She said it’s not a worry, and that she would just have water and food. I then provided my ID. Without even looking at my ID, the waitress said unless we both provide ID neither of us will be served, and that it was company policy. I know for a fact this not true, as I’ve worked in the service industry, especially pubs, for the last decade. This is not a rule that is outlined in smart serve certification, and you can in fact serve all patrons who provide ID. We are both women of colour and have previously had discriminatory experiences at restaurants; regardless of whether this was the intent of the server, this felt very targeted. This has been one of my go to pubs for after work drinks, and I’m very disappointed.

I recently visited the Royal Oak Pub on Bank at Maclaren in Ottawa, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. From the moment I walked in, it was evident that the service would be subpar. Our server's attitude was rude, and to make matters worse, his breath reeked of alcohol and cigarettes. The quality of the beverages was also a letdown. The Coca-Cola served was completely flat, which was quite disappointing. Not only that, but the prices for the drinks were exorbitant, considering the underwhelming taste and lack of carbonation. Moreover, I found the server's judgmental behavior to be highly off-putting. It's disheartening when you're trying to enjoy a meal, only to feel scrutinized and judged by the very person who should be providing a welcoming atmosphere. This definitely contributed to an overall unpleasant experience. In light of these issues, I cannot recommend the Royal Oak Pub on Bank. The combination of poor service, flat and overpriced beverages, and the server's judgmental demeanor make for a disappointing visit. I hope the management takes note of these concerns and takes steps to improve the quality of service and overall experience for future patrons.Ottawa has many wonderful dining options, and I encourage potential visitors to explore other establishments that prioritize customer satisfaction and provide a more enjoyable experience.
