Raw chicken! I’ve been going to heart and crown for over 15 years. They generally have good fish and chips and chowder, but it’s been a while. Today we ordered some wings as a snack. The wings were raw, still pink…..Thanks for the salmonella poisoning!

The fish and chip is absolutely divine. The batter is light and very flavorful and the fish is perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth.

We arrived at the Heart and Crown, August 1st, for a late afternoon drink and appy. We sat in the courtyard outdoors. It was a lovely spot. That was about the only lovely thing about this place! We ordered the deep fried pickles. They were good. The problem was that we got the appy, ate the appy and still did not have our drinks (that we ordered first). While we were waiting for our drinks, the waitress was cleaning off the table beside us (apparently instead of getting our drinks) and dropped dirty utensils on my lap! I was full of tomato sauce from someones fork! Instead of getting me something to help me clean up, she continues cleaning up at the other table. Thank goodness the table behind us had extra napkins that I could use... My husband ordered a Long Island Ice Tea and she serves him a can and a glass (no ice) . This is like the canned Long Island Ice Tea that you buy at the liquor store for $2 and something... and they were asking $9 for it. My husband sent it back. After all this, we just wanted to leave! I was playing with my credit card at the table. Clear signal that we wanted the bill, but we waited forever for that too! The bathrooms were old and dirty. Trust me, don't go there! We really DO NOT recommend!

This was the worst service I experienced in probably over 20 years. Came for a drink before a dinner reservation and it took them 15 minutes to even acknowledge we were sitting here. Another ten to order a drink and twenty to get them. Almost an hour!!! Terrible service and definitely a No Return - Don’t Come Here place.

Nice beer and warm welcome last night. We came back the next day from very far just because we had a nice time on the eve and we were asked to pay an entrance fee the next day. Weird… I don’t think it’s worth, especially when all bars around have free entrance

We were looking for a casual place after a day of site seeing in the area that wasn’t too expensive. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance but was a little surprised the music wasn’t Irish. The food was good. We tried the poutine and was surprised that it was better than we expected!

really terrible service, hostess had attitude problems . went with a group of 7 at 6pm on a Thursday, empty balcony and they told me there's no room they can't seat 7. we try to make it work, it starts hailing, and they tell us they have a table inside for us, which seats 4 people. staff just felt very disorganized and it was not even busy.

A group of us were in town for a 'Men's Retreat Getaway' and we thoroughly enjoyed Ottawa. While exploring the Byward Market, we took a look at the 'Irish Village', where a bunch of the Irish Pubs are all combined under one roof. Most of the places were closed at this time of day, but the Heart and Crown was open and inviting. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some local beers. It is a truly beautiful pub, like something out of an Irish movie and well worth just sitting there people watching from the bar (or patio). That said, our bartender was very serious. She didn't seem to engage in conversation with us (or other patrons much), although she wasn't rude about it, just not really engaging. The beer list is impressive, although I would've liked to have seen more Irish beers on hand. The music was a bit depressing - they played a set of songs (some sad young modern Irish singer) over and over. I would've liked something a bit more rousing, maybe some classic Irish stuff. But, those are minor complaints - the bar is beautiful, the beer good, view awesome, and service is pretty attentive.

It has been a while since I was here and how things have changed. I have been in the last two weekends with friends to watch sports Rugby and Football (Soccer). Surprisingly the number of people coming in to watch were minimal which normally in the past it was full or near full in both sections. I discovered the pub did not have the coverage for the Soccer with none of the early matches and doors not open for any of the early games. Doors did open at 9am. I held off ordering any food until midway through the first rugby match. I ordered the Club it was dry and tastless with little sauce, chicken very dry, and the bread tasted like it was toasted stale bread. Normally I would have ordered a breakfast but they now have discontinued breakfast. Which was brilliant and a pub specialty. The second weekend was similar and this time I ordered French Onion soup...Terrible.

Grab a cubicle if you can as it can get noisy, otherwise a very cozy pub for a pint
