Overall the place is not bad for the price but I would recommend going to a different place if you want to experience omakase. The pieces that they served were ok but I didn’t like how there was only one chef for the entire room of 10 people. I’ve been to other places before and it’s usually a 1:4 ratio of chef to customer for omakase and I felt it allowed for a better interaction and the food was served immediately. I was also closer to the chef and was able to see the preparation process which is part of the experience. At Ato, I was sitting at the end of the table so I didn’t see much and was served last for every piece. The service that they provided was still great but I would have liked to see another chef working in the room.

I got the sea urchin omakase course - each dish was served with different types of uni and it was definitely a mouth-melting experience! The music was very nice and waiters were super friendly as well. Definitely recommend!

Par excellence! The freshest, tastiest, most well presented Japanese seafood based dinner, bar- none! To start, the tempura was crispy outside, not oily, and the seafood tastey and the vegetables firm nor soggy. Wagu beef morsel literally melted on my tongue. The taste of the stuffed squid ring surprised me with a delicate taste that I had never experienced before. If it were light, it would be like seeing a new color never seen before. After this, my pallette was reset with a creamy tofu dish that had a hint of Wasabi. If the sashimi was any fresher, the fish would be swimming its way to the table. Such perfect flavourful and texture. What I thought was desert after so many succulent plates turned out to a cold, diced medley of flavored sashimi in champagne glass, topped with caviar and gold flakes. This exclusive Japanese restaurant is a must go to, at least once. It is expensive. For the private room, five-star personal servers, and of course the extraordinary food, it is well worth the experience.

ok no more omakases for me for a while bc my wallet hurtin but this most recent one I had was deliciouss, no ragrets I had the lower tier omakase selection but it still included pieces like toro, japanese uni, chawanmushi, and crown melon! We had a group of 7 and we were all still able to sit comfortably at the chef sushi bar as they have a lot, if not most of their seating at the sushi bar.

Hosted a party of 10 here in their private room. Minimum spend per person was $135. We had their winter special Omakase and added a whole fresh fish for extra sashimi plus some Dasai sake. Everything was so fresh and tasty, the uni was one of the best I've had. Presentation and service were also excellent.

My fiancée and I went to try ATO for their omakase. At $88, it was quite a good deal. We had our reservation for 8:00PM, at which time we were promptly seated. The restaurant is decorated as a modern, yet traditional style of sushi restaurant that you would find in Japan. It was brightly lit, unlike most higher price point restaurants around the GTA, which I prefer. As it was the winter, they offered to take out jackets for us which was a nice touch to help ensure your seat does not get bulky with a winter jacket hanging behind. Our servers were very attentive, always refilling our tea cups ensuring they stayed warm and filled at all times Their UME menu started off with a miso soup and a sashimi appetizer. Although I am not a big fan of miso soup in general, the one served at ATO had a nice miso flavour with a bit of smokiness. The sashimi appetizer had a variety of five fish: salmon, lean tuna, medium tuna, and two white fish which I have forgotten the names of. All were very fresh and a great start to a delicious meal. The next portion of the experience was ten nigiris. The selection on the day I attended included scallop, striped jack, sea bream, mackerel, lean tuna, fatty tuna, amberjack, salmon, ikura, and uni. All were exceptionally delicious and fresh, however if I were to choose my top three they would be the fatty tuna, scallop, and mackerel with the scallop being my favourite of the night. The sushi was followed by a chopped bluefin tuna hand roll and a piece of torched tamago, which were both excellent. The main portion of the meal was wrapped up with a deliciously smooth and savoury truffle steamed egg which had scallop and shrimp in it as well. I would have liked to add some additional selection that they offered, however as I was full, I had opted out. The meal was ended with a slice of fresh honey dew. Usually I am not a fan of honey dew, however the fruit provided tasted fresh, sweet, and unbelievably juicy. At this price point, this would be a place I would highly recommend and would look forward to going back. The service and quality of food provided was well worth the price.

The ingredients were very fishy. The chef kept rushing forward as if he was chasing us away. Not to mention the body hair issue, the chef's nails were full of black dirt, which was very unprofessional.

Really good experience. I went with my coworker/ friend and we enjoyed the sushi and the service.Currently the promotion is $88 for the Umi meal which is a bang for your buck as we both ended up stuffed by the end.The sushi and sashimi were fresh and tasty and they made sure to ask if we had any allergies which I indicated I did have some.I really enjoyed the experience and definitely will be back.

Our experience at ATO was almost perfect. Our reservation was at 12:30 on a Saturday and we arrived at around 12:33 because parking was surprisingly hard to find. We ordered two sets of the sashimi&sushi set and one unagi don. Our chef was great and explained all the dishes that were served. The food tasted great. The server also was quick to clear used plates and fill our tea cups. However, while we were still trying to finish the unagi don that we ordered half way through our lunch, our server approached us and asked if desserts can be served because the next group of guests would be seated at 1:30. We accommodated the request but this did negatively impacted our overall experience. We were not told there would be an 1-hr seating time limit when we made the reservation or when we were seated. The bill was also brought to us before we finish the dessert. We felt very rushed at the end and we could've probably budget our time and choose not to order the unagi don if we knew the 1hr seating limit ahead.

Came here for their affordable omakase dinner experience priced at $88 per person. This came with miso soup, assorted sashimi, ten pieces of sushi, a handroll, tamago, and dessert which I felt was a very good deal. Overall the sushi and sashimi was such high quality and tasted very fresh, we really enjoyed most rolls and had a very pleasant experience with service as well. Definitely recommend checking this spot out if you want to try omakase for a more affordable price and great tasting experience!

This was my first time trying omakase! My boyfriend and I got the Ume set ($88 per person) which comes with the following: - Soup: Miso soup with some mushrooms and kelp. The mushrooms were cooked so well, not mushy at all. I will say it was a bit on the salty side, but that definitely showed how concentrated the miso was! 8/10 - Sashimi appetizer (5 kinds): This had a variety of Atlantic salmon, tuna (chutoro, otoro), hamachi (amberjack), and uni (sea urchin). I'm usually not a fan of uni, but this one was almost on the sweet side. I will say now I have been converted! This was a delicious course. 10/10 - 10 pcs sushi: In order, the pieces were: hirame (fluke), Atlantic salmon with truffle, hamachi (amberjack), akami (bluefin tuna), white shrimp, ikura (salmon roe), hotate (scallop), shimaaji (striped jack), otoro (tuna), uni (sea urchin). I may have gotten some of these wrong, but overall these were fabulous and super fresh as we got to see the sushi made right in front of us! However, I did find the wasabi taste very strong, my sinuses were definitely opened! I could've asked to tone down the wasabi but decided to tank it. This was served with pickled ginger on the side as a palate cleanser, as expected. Overall a solid 9/10! - Bluefin negi toro hand roll: No picture of this as we were instructed to eat it right away to avoid soggy seaweed. Not outstanding but still a yummy piece! I did find it hard to bite through the seaweed though so I think I would've preferred if this was a cut roll. 8/10 - Tamago: Light and fluffy sweet egg. A nice treat and dividing course between the sushi and the next! 9/10 - Chawanmushi: Steamed egg with a scallop, shrimp, mushroom, and some truffle. This was alright to me - the egg was very soft and smooth which was great, but the shrimp and scallop tasted overcooked. Ultimately this is almost unavoidable when steaming things, but maybe this dish isn't for me. 7/10 - Dessert: A wedge of Japanese honeydew melon. I'm not sure if this is the real deal (the expensive melon you see at supermarkets) but nonetheless it was super ripe and super sweet. 9/10 We also ordered the following drinks: - Matcha yuzu highball: Dangerous drink, can hardly taste the alcohol. Very light matcha flavour, just yuzu sweetness and soda fizz. I enjoyed it very much! Large portion too. 9/10 - Yuzu ume sake spritz: This had actual bits of yuzu rind so you can tell this is the real deal! Bubbly, sweet, tart, and absolutely delicious. 9/10 All in all, this place blew my mind. The service was impeccable, there was coat check and the waiters were very aware of what we needed or if we needed our plates replaced. The sushi chef was also very kind and told us what each sushi was before plating. My only critique would be the seats are very close to each other. But, for the price of $88, I could not have expected more! I think I will come back in the future for any other special menus they put out!!

It was our first time here and we been wanting to try the $88 special omakase menu to celebrate Valentine’s Day and ATO did not disappoint! The service was attentive and impeccable with the constant refilling of tea, clearing dishes, pouring soy sauce, etc. The chef was friendly and highly skillful and attentive to details and presentation of each sushi, handroll, etc that he handcrafted to perfection. The fish was fresh and delicious with each one hailing from Japan including Hokkaido and other cities in Japan. This is a must-try hidden gem in Richmond Hill. This is only second omakase we’ve experienced and will be back soon! Thank you for amazing dining experience!
