A cozy, family run Hong Kong style cafe offering good, solid food that warped Yelp reviews did not give it justice! When I thought I had covered most, if not all, decent Hong Kong Style Cafe in my Richmond Hill neighborhood. A routine drive into the strip plaza on Beaver Creek/Highway #7, where Jim Chai Kee is located, revealed another obscured, potential candidate. The small, compact and cozy eatery offers a fairly compact and interesting menu to match. A young cheerful and friendly server took our order of the following homey, one plate meals:- Baked Luncheon Meat and Macaroni with Cheese and Creamy Tomato Sauce- Casserole of Baked Battered Fish Filet with Cheese and White Cream Sauceon Egg Fried Rice.- Satay Beef Slices and Scrambled Egg on Instant Noodles- Fried Chicken Wings with French Fries- Complimentary Hot or Cold Beverages.I am and always have been a fan of baked casserole dishes topped with creamy white sauce and as such, I always keep a watchful eye for good, stand-out ones. Today’s new find must be amongst one of my all time GTA favorites. Unlike some ‘ cut-corner ‘ starchy ones, ‘Cha-Kee’s’ creamy, velvety smooth version was packed full of buttery cream flavor coupled with a slight hint of welcoming ‘coconut‘ aroma and taste. The deeply flavored, tender Satay beef slices were a perfect match for the noodles, the delicate scrambled egg adding another intriguing dimension. Those piping hot, crunchy and tasty chicken wings were as good as it gets! Lip smacking good?...Finger licking good? ... .etc?? Take your pick?!For our choice of complimentary beverages. One of us decided to venture outside the box and ordered a weird ‘ Lemon with Ribena sparkling water ‘. A most intriguing combination and apparently a hot version was also being offered?!All in all, another great casual place with good food and friendly service for my collection of worthy food destinations.

Service is fast and food hits the spot. The HK style milk tea is one of the best in the city. More vegetarian options would be great (I currently get the chicken with egg on instant noodles without the chicken) and reduction in the amount of single use waste items. All sauces are in plastic containers even if you eat in and use of plastic straws are still in place.

I’m always hesitant to order pork chop baked rice at HK tea restaurants, because I am extremely sensitive to pork that is not 100% fresh. I feel some restaurants tend to use pork that is not fresh for this dish to save a few bucks, particularly, because they thought the tomato sauce could cover up that taste.I decided to give it a shot at Cha Kee because I just really wanted to have it today, and damn, I've got to say I was extremely impressed by the baked pork chop on rice here. It was perhaps one of the best I’ve ever tasted in recent years, after visiting countless HK tea restaurants. The tomato sauce itself is perfect - sour and sweet in the best way possible. The pork chop? Excellent. Not only is it super fresh (unlike how it is sometimes served in other Hk tea restaurants), but the texture, the cut and the flavours are all perfect. The uniquely juicy thick cut was nicely coated in panko and cooked to crispy perfection. Every bite is a satisfying, pleasant surprise. While it is not the cheapest in town, it comes with a free drink (and the ice drink is the same price!) I will definitely come back often.

I had no idea this place was here until a colleague mentioned it. It’s a tiny place, and there’s usually a wait, but because it’s HK cafe style dining, people are usually in and out pretty quickly. This is to be expected. If you’re looking for spacious fine dining, this isn’t the place. But if you are looking for some comforting HK style baked rice, noodles and French toast, they got it.I usually get baked pork chop rice and I’m on the lookout for really good ones and Cha Kee is up there. I enjoyed it as it wasn’t overly cheesy and sweet. The only thing I’d say is I wish the rice was more “fried” like, a better fried rice base. But other than that, I’d definitely go back and have it again. They have daily specials as well and I want to try their baked bolognese spaghetti. Good HK style milk tea as well.

It is a really good place to eat. We went there for lunch and it was good. The waitress was really kind and they give some free lollipops to the kids. They give 1 menu for eat person and it was about $11-14 per person. Each meal comes with a drink and you don’t need to pay for cold drinks which is really good since other restaurants need you to pay. They have a TV so you can see the popular foods that you may like. They also give you butter, sugar, spoons, forks, knifes. They will give you some kid friendly knifes too. They also have decors. The overall price was about $50 in total.

Tonight ordered 2 dishes, wasn't feeling adventurous so I did the usual. First dish was pork chop on spaghetti, met expectations. Second dish, chicken steak on spaghetti w/ 2 to 3 tablespoons of sauce. A little disappointed given too little sauce.

Here are the facts:We waited for over 30 minutes, only to have employees tell us that because another family had a child, we were pressured to give our table away. Food looked okay, but service is pretty crap. Ambiance is small and honestly could be arranged better to make better use of the space. Take away, bring a child or you'll be continuously put at the back of the line.
