Bottom line: declining quality, not worth your money. My partner and I have been to Sovereign Room many times over the past two years. Generally we enjoy the food. The menu changes regularly and the dishes are contemporary and call on a variety of cultures for inspiration. On our most recent visit we noticed a significant drop in food quality. We split the Beef Khao Soi and Duck Gnocchi. The Khao Soi broth was bland. Mildly spicy but otherwise lacking much flavor. The beef was tender to the point of being mushy and also flavourless. The fried noodles were either straight from a bag, or somehow convinced us that they were. The duck gnocchi was especially bad - overcooked bloated mush, not resembling the authentic product in texture, which is particularly insulting in a city full of home cooked Italian food. The roux in the sauce was split and under cooked, the dominant flavor in the dish being uncooked flour. The duck, much like the beef, was a flavorless mush. I would guess this kitchen is using either a sous vide or braising their meats at length in order to avoid having to cook to order or involve any real skill in preparing their dishes. The only distinguishable flavor other than flour was stale Parmesan.Service was fine but generally lacking. We were not given a pitcher of water like the other tables around us, and when my glass was empty it was not refilled.Prices are above average for the product. They're attempting to sit at the table with Tomlin and other high end restaurants in the city but punching in a much lighter weight category.

Only stopped in last Saturday for a couple of pints. The atmosphere was good and allowed for conversation. Would recommend.

Great Pizza, but Other Dish Fall ShortI recently visited The Sovereign Room with high hopes of indulging in some delicious pizza. While the pizza certainly lived up to my expectations, I found the other food offerings to be rather lackluster.Let's start with the star of the show – the pizza. The Sovereign Roomtruly excels in this department. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, with a delightful chewiness. The sauce had a well-balanced tanginess, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. Each bite was a delightful explosion of cheesy goodness. If you're a pizza lover, this place is definitely worth a visit. However, my excitement diminished when I tried some of the other dishes on the menu. The non-pizza options, such as Duck Poutine and Gravy, were quite mediocre. The flavors seemed to lack depth, and the execution fell short of my expectations. It felt as though the focus and attention to detail that went into the pizza were not replicated in the other dishes. On a positive note, the service at The Sovereign Room was friendly and attentive. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, creating a pleasant dining experience. In conclusion, if you're craving excellent pizza, The Sovereign Room is a great choice. The pizza alone makes it a worthwhile visit. However, if you're looking for a well-rounded dining experience with consistently impressive food beyond the pizza, you may want to explore other options.

You have to try the duck poutine. Place is run down/gives off dive bar vibes but the food is actually 10/10

Just had a wonderful meal, everything was delicious, we ordered the gnocchi and ordered the duck breast. All the food was perfectly cooked, and well presented. I was thrilled that they had Murphys on tap, hard to find in my neck of the woods. We finished with a pumpkin Swiss roll. Fantastic! There was bacon in the whipped cream which paired perfectly with the pumpkin and spices. We did find that it was a bit loud for us, though that could just be our preference. The staff was friendly and personable. We were well looked after all night.

We are a long way from home taking a long road back. Yelp made no mistake in steering us to The Sovereign Room (gastropub). It's unassuming from the outside but very welcoming inside. Street parking was nearby (on a Wednesday night). Our server was attentive and recommended the Gnochi (vegetarian?), which was excellent. The Caesar salad was way better than average. We also had the Bigoli (chicken and kimchi sausage on pasta) which I would get again. We had an Oatmeal Stout from the local Sleeping Giant brewery which I'd also recommend, as good as any I've had. I wish I was good at remembering names as our server was first rate. However everyone we interacted with were welcoming and friendly. I even liked the music. They know what they are doing in all aspects of the business from a customer perspective.

This used to be one of our favourite places, unfortunately we’ve noticed the quality slipping as of late, cumulating in our dinner last night where our fried chicken was congratulations level done, (when I tried to fork a piece it was soooo done it flew across the literal restaurant) and we both got food poisoning from the duck poutine. Wasn’t a great experience.

It didn't wow me with it's decor when we went in, but as the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover. Food was amazing! A step above the everyday offerings of standard pub fare. I recommend the Sov burger, if you're a burger fan.

Stopped in Thunder Bay for a road trip across Canada. Ordered from here for a quick late meal. Ordered the SOV Burger with fries and the Chipotle Apple BBQ chicken wings. It was sooo delicious, tasted fresh, flavourful. Had it to go and it was still hot when I received it. No problems at all, thank you for the tasty food Sovereign Room!
