Visited this quaint and wonderful Bakery & Caffe yesterday along with my Parents. We took pastries, cookies, croissants and soup to go...all delicious! One of the best parts of this experience was the family oriented service. We were greeted warmly and were engaged in friendly conversations. Everyone was extremely helpful and very nice.

I bought a $40 sacher tort cake on the 24th to serve Christmas Day. What a waste of money. It was stale. Talk about a huge disappointment. Being new to the area and being told it was amazing I chose to splurge for Christmas. A complete disappointment. No one finished their slice.

We go here anytime we need a cake for a celebration. The best place in the area for desserts that are baked in house by a professional pastry chef. The service is great and thw owners are adorable.

Stepping inside this bakery is like stepping back in time. There are pictures on the wall of the baker, who I can only imagine has perfected their craft perhaps even in this location over the last three or four or five decades. You've probably heard that this place has the best black forest cake in the city, and that's what drew me in. At first I was nervous not to see one behind the 1970s style counter window, but upon asking I was told that they had a frozen one which only needed a few hours at room temperature to thaw and be good as new. Or, it could just thaw out overnight in the refrigerator. But I had no time to wait, 4 hours would be punishment enough! In the future I will call ahead, to make sure that what I want is ready for when I want it.I had options. There was a small one, that I was told would serve eight, or a large one that I was told would serve 10 to 12. I opted for the small one, because for two of us eight seemed like far more than enough. Now, I understand why they say it serves eight. There are eight cherries on top of it, and I suppose each slice is supposed to get a cherry. however, each slice that gets a cherry better want to have two or three slices because that's the amount of getting with those sizes. I would say there would be no problem serving 16 people with the small cake. I'm a little nervous to think of what the large one looks like, but a little excited as well. You are free to sit down and eat any number of the treats that they offer in shop. There are a number of tables, and it's quite spacious. But for me, I just paid my $38 on debit because you can't use credit card, and vowed to return.I hear there's a tiramisu with my name on it, but again I'll call ahead for that one, and it would have been too much to order two giant treats on one day. Even if it was for my birthday.

ordered a black forest cake for my husbands birthday and wow, what an amazing cake - fresh cream and ingredients, many layers of chocolate sponge, lots of cherries and chocolate - it took us back in time when cakes were made with fresh ingredients and actually tasted amazing! loved it - will definitely get all my cakes from lale's bakery and will highly recommend them to everyone. it was worth the drive from barrie to etobicoke! oh, and the rumballs? awesome!! thank you lale!!
