The service was good and the restaurant is tucked away in the side of a few construction projects. There’s a lot of history from the chef, and the menu set some expectations (article about being flown in by famous celebrities to cook Thai food).Unfortunately food was below expectation. I went with my fiancé and we tastes and textures were overpowering. There was heavy use of cooking oil in the drunken noodles and the fish curry was overpowered with ginger. Part way through the meal I realized it tasted similar to food you’d get at Thai express…Would not recommend the tasting menu, we did not get good serving size and the dessert was ok.

We went with a large family group for a birthday celebration and from the moment of contacting the restaurant to make the reservation, Allan, one of the owners, was so helpful and welcoming, helping us think of ways to make the celebration more special. His son Brandon took really good care of us on the night of the party (Allan and Chef Sasi were in Thailand) and the food was outstanding! They make all of the regular Thai dishes with a special flare and they have so many other, less traditional dishes that are superb. The golden pumpkin squash soup and the stir fried basil eggplant were so rich and flavourful and the mango salad was perfect! We will definitely be back for more celebrations! Thanks for everything Allan!

Delicious authentic Thai food and owners are soo friendly and hospitable. We went for the winterlicious tasting menu, portions were big! The owner came over and chatted with us multiple times and took us to the kitchen to show us around and introduce us to the chef (also an owner).Owners also gave us a Thai tea and dessert on the house which was so kind!Highly recommend this place!! Also lots of vegetarian options.

Authentic Thai Cuisine in the heart of Toronto. Prepared by renown Chef Saki with such precision and care. With nutrition, and health are yours, every bit is like a dance on the palate. My favourite is the pineapple with chicken perfectly matched in this cuisine profile and the building of flavours.Every customer is like family. Whether you dine in or have it personally delivered to home. Treat yourself, you haven’t lived until you taste Mengrai Thai!!! The perfect 10 rating!!!

Had a chance to experience this food with 4 friends in our party, all of us thrilled with the food and service. Highly
Tried them for takeout for the first time based on good reviews and pictures. It was awful. Just a bad meal.So disappointed.Cashew nut chicken wasn’t passable. Didn’t taste good. Neither of us could finish it.The rice smelled like urine and was still crunchy. Spat it out immediately.First time last time.

Eating at Mengrai is like eating at the house of a dear friend. The owner, Allan, welcomed us into the restaurant himself and recommended some of his favourite dishes and cocktails to us. I tried the sea bass and it was one of the best Thai dishes I have ever had! For dessert, we tried the rice pudding which was also incredible. The menu had clear labelling to demarcate gluten-free items and the staff were so friendly and kind. This is a must-try Thai experience in Old Town Toronto!Vegetarian options: The menu is clearly labeled to let you know what is vegetarian and/or how to customize a dish to make it so.Dietary restrictions: The menu labels gluten free items so you can avoid any allergens!
Absolutely incredible.Super quaint restaurant with amazing service and extraordinary Thai. I can definitely see it as a top contender for best Thai in the city!

Best Thai food I've had here, hands down. I love that they have several versions of Pad Thai, and specifically a less sweet version. I love Pad Thai but I often lament it's a bit tooo sweet for my liking, which makes it great that they have different versions which account for those differences in taste. I ordered the Chef's Special Pad Thai and it was excellent. Great service, great food, reasonably priced, nice ambience and lighting in the restaurant.A bit of a Toronto gem.

BEST THAT PLACE IN THE 6ix.I’ve loved coming to this gem. I came here on a date with my gf and we both immediately fell in love with the couple who owns the place and their service towards Thai food and culture. In a city of high cost of living, they provide wonderful food, at a reasonable price.I hope they continue to thrive and open more locations before they end up retiring in Thailand. Hoping to come here often:)Vegetarian options: Love the fried rice with Panang curry.
