Service was horrible, you would order drinks , the drinks wouldn’t come , you’d ask your server they’d reply with “ it’s sitting on the bar downstairs I’ll be right back “ 25 minutes later , still no drink , ask again “ oh yeah it’s still on the bar I’m busy “ we had a very large group , who wanted to order lots of food and drinks but unfortunately every time we tried to order the order was either wrong or didn’t come at all.People got charged for drinks that were made wrong and did not consume , server said “ I can still charge you because the drink was drinkable “ we asked to see the manager the manager said “ what do you expect me to do?”I use to absolutely love love love this place now I’m embarrassed I ever raved about it or recommended it to family and friends. Servers were rude and disrespectful. Food was also not the same as it once was, the chicken wings use to be absolutely amazing, massive and super saucy .. wings this time around super small dry and over priced. More disappointed in the attitude we received when we asked questions as to why it was taking 30-35 minutes to get a drink. This was a large going away party, no cutlery was set out or water on the tables ( we booked reservations for 30+ people) simple courtesy/good service I guess doesn’t exist there anymore. We were all also refused service when we tried to go to the bar to open and close a tab just for one drink since our server couldn’t handle our orders , the bartender replied with “ you have a server , I’m not taking your order we don’t really do that “ again this was an amazing spot 2 years ago , now … stay away !

This is specific to the cafe on the first floor and not the bar on the second floor. I've found that the barista's are generally quite bland and unfriendly (basic customer service skills such as being welcoming and friendly banter seem to be a lost art in this cafe and in most cafes unfortunately, or perhaps owners don't hold those skills as importantly as they should)Aside from that, the cafe is really dark. They need to change the lightbulbs, do a paint job and update the decor. Brighter lights will attract more clientele who peek through the window

Servers were horrible. Good was just okay. We made reservations as we went with a group and they messed up everyone’s bills. 2 servers for our group so they doubled everyone’s bills. After talking with manager she said “what would you like me to do ?” We will never EVER go back. This was our first and last time there.

Local history and lovely Lager! Today I purchased Lion Lager from the brewery and upon leaving I was thanked for my business by Sonia. I let Sonia know that I love the beer and the history behind it, as I am currently teaching students at a local highschool about the prohibition era. Sonia immediately brought me upstairs and told me a bit about of the history of her business. Not only did she share her story, but she gifted me a flyer highlighting the story of her families ownership of the Huether and a limited print of a painting she did of the site back in 1993. I appreciate her taking the time to teach me about the Adlys story and providing me with amazing hospitality. I will be a regular visitor forever!

In case it’s difficult to find — the Huether Hotel and Café 1842 are the same place.Favourite place to study. It’s hit the sweet spot of being warm + welcoming, not too loud but not too quiet, and nice beverages (their matcha isn’t too bad). They offer both breakfast and lunch/dinner dishes which is a plus too! It’s also just a fun place to explore a bit when you need a break. The building itself is so beautiful and adds to the overall ambiance. The building has been operating since 1842 (hence the name) initially as a brewery with the later addition of a hotel. There’s no use in my describing it so you better just go check it out yourself ?My favourite part is the people here. The workers as well as the customers who come here are very friendly and always up for a chat. Alsoooooo, if you come at the right time you get the treat of some amazing jazz thanks to the adjacent Jazz Room! They often have events and open mics there which you can hear in this café.

We were visiting Waterloo to celebrate our son's 21st bday and decided to have lunch at Huether Hotel. We spoke to Sonja at the front who lead us upstairs to the dining area. We had an excellent lunch and then complimented with a slice of bday cake, on the house. As sincere thank you to Sonja and hotel staff who made our visit with our son a wonderful experience.Brian

It’s a running joke within our friend group that the service is awful here. Servers themselves aren’t *terrible* but the establishment is grossly understaffed very frequently. Tonight was the second time in the last year that I’ve had to walk out after 15 minutes due to being seated and no servers even offering water/taking drink orders. It’s disappointing as I enjoy going but now I can’t even convince my wife to go there because the service is so bad.

We came to book a table for Friday night celebrations and when we arrived we took about 90s to order. The server and bartender came back 10 minutes later to tell us they wouldn’t serve us. They told we took too long to order, indicating that they wouldn’t serve us because they thought we had already had too many drinks. This was after seeing us quietly talking for 10 minutes. They then told us to leave when we argued with them. This is a terrible business that our group will not ever come back to.

Very nice spot to study in the morning. I love the historical details, it gives it something different than your average cafe in uptown. Staff were friendly and quick. The only thing was the food was quite pricey for what you

So disappointing~ ordered the cheese, bacon grilled burger, and caesar salad… I’d had it last year when visiting Waterloo, and loved it!~ hence, anticipating the same good quality… Shocked when delivery ordered arrived late, not even warm~ but OK, I’ve got a microwave…the **worst **was it was a Mc Donald’s burger, Mcdonald’s salad…. bad.~beyond disappointed.Manager’s only recourse was to address it with delivery company?…??????.. they? cooked the food???… other people I spoke on phone with to address this were very kind, helpful~ but, the manager’s solution was unsatisfactory, inferior to anything I’ve encountered at Heuther’s before…. … an expensive McD meal???
