One of the best kept secrets on the Oregon Coast. This is a little hole in the wall on a busy street in Astoria with a changing seasonal menu and some of the best vibes in town. There's always something new and interesting coming to the menu, including chef-foraged ingredients and private dining experiences where the chef curates a special menu just for you. Kenzo, the owner-chef, is a wonderful human being, fun to talk to & just a genuinely kind guy. Stay and chat with him - he's a wealth of knowledge of the local area. He's leaning into more vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options, which is great, but he also has plenty of meat and glutenous options for you.If you're coming to Astoria, check the Busu Instagram to find out whether he's open & what's on the menu. You won't regret it.

This spot is pure quality served fresh out of a tiny to-go window. Busu is a one-man show; it opens when the chef is ready to roll (and not before), which for us was a little past 6pm. Get there early because the line gets long fast.He told us it was his first time cooking the menu (handwritten on a whiteboard, of course) headed up by a whole quail "oyakodon tribute" and including a forager's miso, kimchi congee, and kara-age morel mushrooms. It was the best meal someone has cooked me in years. No exaggeration, I tore that quail apart with my hands on a picnic bench in 5 minutes flat and nothing but bones remained. My one regret is that I didn't even bother taking pictures because I couldn't wait to eat, and the quail was legitimately a thing of beauty.Places like Busu are getting harder to find. This isn't the place to go if you're expecting to be coddled and catered to, although the service is genuinely good and the chef is a delight to interact with. This is cuisine without white tablecloths, triple-digit price tags, or pretense. It's good, genuinely good, so good that the food stands entirely on its own merit. I will definitely be back, and I'll stand outside that little window as long as I need to for another helping.Vegetarian options: Vegetarian/vegan items were clearly labeled, and more than half the menu was vegan. They even had gluten-free options!

I went to the omakase dinner last night where Chef Kenzo prepared the most perfect & intimate foodie-centric dining experience. His tried & true skills shine through his creativity to make an elegant & thoughtful dinner for up to 4 people at a time, all in the heart of his quaint Būsu kitchen. Highly recommend!!

I’m eating their curry right now. It’s super delicious, and the guy serving it was A+++ nice. Will definitely stop here every time I pass thru Astoria.

Don't bother going by here to try and pick up take out dinner as the format has changed. I am sad to find out that we will no longer be able to eat here when we visit Astoria. We loved the food when we had it in the past but now there is no ordering at the window, only private dinners or occasional pop-ups. Such a bummer. I do wish the chef well with the new model.

First off, let's start with the fact that this place has amazing food. I won't deny that a bit.The problem here is that it's extremely difficult to get this amazing food these days. It used to be that you could come about half the week and order and get some food. Now, unless you want to pay out the nose for a "private dinner" or be one of the first 10 people in line at a random pop-up that happens once a month, you're sore out of luck.

really good food, impossible to get said food. Used to be a regular little food stall, open half the week for anyone to come by. Now, you either need to pay way too much for a "private dinner" or be one of the first few people in line for a once in a month pop-up.

Tuna Poke Bowl. Probably one of the best things I've ever eaten.

This place was killer and the chef/owner is an awesome guy, really nice to chat with. It’s worth it to sit there, assuming there are free chairs when you arrive. Will be back 100%.

I cannot pronounce the name of the dish we had, and I'm not exactly sure what all was in it, but it was so delicious!!! A cabbage pancake with seaweed and shrimp.

Elegant and amazing food. We had albacore poke bowl, seafood cakes, and smoked tofu, all amazing. Also creamy shrimp mousseline and lobster soup - to absolutely die for. Not a sit down place but who cares!

Very underwhelmed. Cannot understand the rave reviews. I agree the pancakes are waaaaay too salty, and aren't worth $18 a piece plus tips. It's mostly flour, cabbage, some onion, with a bit protein of your choice. Mine was even burned on one side. It was the most expensive pancake I had for more than $21. I could have got a far better meal at most other places in town for that price.

I make a point to stop by every time I’m in town. Every dish I’ve ever had here has been exceptional. Always local, fresh and sometimes foraged ingredients. Sooo good!!!

I think place is decent enough but not OVERWHELMINGLY amazing. I had okonomiyaki and it was packed with lots of ingredients. We were also gifted some pickles and those were pretty decent. I think it's hard to expect authenticity here, so I'll take this. Takeout only. Check Instagram for the menu since the menu changes a lot.
