My Chong Qing Hot Chicken had a fishy oil taste. Maybe that is normal? but its not my preference. The spicy heat was nice, not too hot. My husband had the Kung Pao, it was oookayyy , but not as good as Happy Pandas. I doubt we will be returning. Lunch prices were good and if you dont mind the frying oil fishy flavor, you might like it.

Yummy! I read through a lot of the reviews on here before deciding on Szechuan Garden for my family's Christmas Eve Dinner. What I gathered from the reviews were people who really know the region, and it's food love Szechuan Garden, as do most people. I saw the negative reviews, but they seemed to me for the most part to be on the whiny side, and not well informed on Szechuan cuisine. The one concern I had was some of the negative reviews mentioned the food being too salty, and I am pretty sensitive and picky when it comes to overly salted food. I decided I had faith in the good reviews and made a huge order for Christmas Eve. And Szechuan Garden did not disappoint. The kids, my husband and I enjoyed everything. The dumplings were everyone's favorite, as well as the General Tso's, Broccoli Beef, Dried Cooked String Beans. The pot stickers, which I'm not a pot stocker fan to start with and did not try looked to me to be fine, but not as unique or tasty as the other dishes, although they were all eaten with pleasure by the rest of my family. I ordered for myself the Hot & Spicy Dried Pot with Tofu. The tofu was well prepared, but I don't think it did the dish the service that having a meat or seafood that can better absorb the flavors could. I found none of the dishes anywhere near too salty. Everything was very well seasoned, and great fresh flavors. A fan of the simple elevated when it comes to food and drinks, my favorite dish was the Dried Cooked String beans, which were flash fried with tons of garlic yet flavor goodness on the outside while still crisp retaining their freshness on the inside. The beans weren't too spicy from the accompanying chili peppers for my mild loving family, and were a great addition for me... spicy is my favorite.

Surprisingly good Chinese food. I'm from northen China and in general have not been impressed by the Chinese food selection in Portland, but this place was decent. We ordered snow pea leaf, eggplant with garlic, manderin crispy chicken, twice cooked poek, and chicken fried rice. Everything was delicious! Not authentic per se, but great Americanized Chinese food. It's not spicy at all though (rather than Sichuan food, tastes more like Cantonese food). I took one star off because the portion size was a bit small for take out.

Solid choice for a last minute dinner out - we didn't need a reservation and the food was good, quick, and plenty. We stuck with szechuan choices which I think is the way to go here - Dan Dan noodles, beef dry pot, and cumin lamb. These were all good. I was hoping for more vegetable dishes like Chinese broccoli but they didn't have that - we got a broccoli and mushroom dish instead which was okay.

Half the Food was cold the general Taos tasted like ketchup. Panda express has done better for me

We had some hiccups with our order but it was Christmas and the restaurant staff really did the best they could to address the backlog. That being said, my husband was impressed with his Szechuan fish. I have never had to go XLB that still had soup coming out of it 30 mins after I brought it home. I was so impressed. We'll definitely try again when it isn't crazy. Thank you so much for our Christmas dinner!

Paid for a container of fried chicken that wasn’t even tossed in sauce and had to pay extra for rice. I’ve never had sesame chicken that was literally just fried chicken nuggets that I’m tossing myself at home. They also tasted fishy so they must share the frier oil between all types of meats. How is this worth $15?

So disappointed! It was dirty inside and that front door should of told us to LEAVE, so nasty, and the place was empty, but we wanted to try it because of the good reviews. The server was nice, that's the two stars, the food was a minus 1 star, even the dang potstickersl! Nothing tasted fresh, it was gummy and the flavors were so off! The sweet-and-sour chicken was gooey and all breading, and the chicken chow mein was the worst, we left almost all we ordered on the table! The only thing we thought was okay was the BBQ pork! This was a huge waste of money! Never again!

Would NOT reccomned. We thought we would try a new place. That was a mistake. Food was not good. Appetizers were cold in the middle. We also didn't get one of them until after our dinner came out. Their General Tso's chicken is literally sweet and sour chicken with a few chopped up red chili peppers. It was disgusting. Egg flower soup had zero flavor. We didn't get one of our dishes until we were all done eating. The service was ok. The young man who waited on us was friendly and courteous. The lady who brought the food out was not so friendly.

Very good. The fish in the spicy gravy was really good and had a lot of flavor. We got to go and they didn't put the sauce on the chicken which is nice because it didn't get soggy and it was nice and crispy right when we start eating.

Out of all three dishes (mongolian chicken, XLB, and the moo shu chicken) I was most impressed of the mongolian chicken. It was flavorful, not too spicy and had a huge portion size. (as did the other dishes) Overall, was most disappointed by the XLB.After biting into it, the dumpling wall would unravel, and the wrapping was incredibly thick. Their wasn't much soup at all in the dumpling and the meat was huge and chewy. I would not recommend this dish at all. Also, I would not recommend the egg flower soup. The consistency was more yolky than soup like. The moo shu chicken was OK. Nothing notable. The service was fast as there was not much customers at 7PM on a Sunday night. I don't typically comment on miscellaneous things but the floor was so sticky walking around, getting up to use the restroom. It's as if someone spilt soda everywhere.

I was a little surprised to see the relatively low rating. I’m not necessarily a Chinese food expert, but this food was very good. I got the chicken in hot garlic sauce and the spice was on point, the flavor was great and the chicken wasn’t all skin and tendon. Also, the chicken wasn’t small pieces covered in tons of breading making it look bigger. A previous review mentioned something about no background music, but there was when we ate. Disappointed that I couldn’t try more! Would love to return and try something else.

Cumin lamb, snow pea greens, vegetable fried rice and potstickers--so delish. Incredible flavors and real nose running heat on the lamb. Perfect! Great service. Nice cold beer! So glad yelp led us to Szechuan Garden.
