Called closer to closing and asked to put in a to-go order since we were staying in the hotel and they gave us a voucher. The menu online looked super reasonable so we thought we would try some apps. When I called, the woman told me that they didn’t have anything I wanted because they had just changed their menu 4 days prior. Obviously, they didn’t update their own website. So I went with her suggestions. She did not give me a price before hanging up. When I went to pick up and pay it was more than double than what I had expected and I asked to see the menu. Not only did they change the menu, they doubled the prices from online. I was too tired to argue with her so I just paid and left but I’ll never return. Also, the food was mediocre for what I paid.

We had the pleasure of dining at Bar Alder this last Saturday before our show. The Bartender, I think his name was Matt, was really great and the cucumber cocktail he made was amazing! The inside of this restaurant is so beautiful. I don’t know why we have never been here before. The food was tasty as well. We had the poppers and hummus which were good, but the confit chick leg was amazing! So crispy with a tangy glaze. I could have had 4 of them! We also had the chickpea cakes. That was a delicious vegan dish. Thanks Bar Alder! We will be back.

My wife and i had booked a hotel nearby and had stopped in for a dinner treat.Man was i wrong after sitting down our server mentioned what was available, which wasnt much then went on to make sure we order 6-8 small plates per person. And based on the limited selection we decided to dip out for subway, the low light decor really makes you feel like ur in a very classy place. But asking two people to order 6 to 8 $11 plates of appetizers and call it a meal. Was just outside of my comfort food zone.

I like the location, but no atmosphere and that is the saddest part half the time people forget to put candles on the table so you don’t even have Candlelight to at least make up for what’s lacking in ambience With such an historical great corner location with beautiful windows any place in a larger city like New York that would be lucky enough to have a corner like this would make it the most incredible place the most incredible ambience that makes you want to stay for hours, and spend all your money to eat multiple plates and drinks with friends night after night. Sadly, this place has changed names so many times that it has no personality, additionally, the music was probably the worst of the worst during the seven days that I stayed and dined nearly daily. The music was a random hodgepodge of whatever was put on that day. It was one of the worst things, and also one of the most important, which help contribute to the ambience which contributes to whether people want to spend time in this facility, or not every great hotel or great restaurant on earth, and every great restaurant bar café lounge around the world knows that one of the most important aspects is music And have the correct music you need a music Director or a person who has worked as a music Director specifically for the restaurant industry. If you go to any of the places that have been around for many years anywhere they always have epic amazing Curated music that goes with curated lighting that often starts at sundown and continues and progresses and takes you on a journey throughout the evening That makes people want to enjoy this incredible food incredible atmosphere with incredible music that makes incredible memories hopefully with incredible friends and when they do they come back and they bring their friends and they eat and they dine and they return and they talk about it. Even if food is mediocre, but the atmosphere in the music and the drinks are amazing. People will continually return sadly because of the lack of all of these aspects combining to create an incredible experience. What it does is it creates a bland memory, one people don’t wish to repeat in an area that is struggling with many beautiful buildings and many restaurants and many choices of hotel restaurants. This sadly misses the Mark far and away on top of all of it. The choices on the menu are far from choice, the selection and the menu which was created in general, is lacking desirability for the average person who would be joining others in this location there is no real personality. There is no real flavor in the menu if you know what I mean. As a long time GM there is nothing remarkable here. Nothing. Everything is mediocre and ok, nothing remarkable or notable and not much to consider returning to, except we did have well made drinks, and the bartenders were friendly. No doubt thrilled to have business. But to top it off, I get that the management in general probably wouldn’t know what to do with incredibly great employees and my guess is that the only thing that made us remotely consider returning were the employees but I highly doubt they’ll be there long without the sustained business that is desperately needed to keep great employees, my number one suggestion and opinion is to hire a restaurant PR person who then has the responsibility of hiring and deciding the lighting the look the feel of the music, including a live DJ set up on the bar there should be spinning, lounge music in the evenings. Take a trip to LA/NYC to see great places this could become, Start at Cicconi’s in West Hollywood for inspiration, incredible food incredible atmosphere, and not much more than this beautiful corner could be. I had high expectations and will look at other hotels for the next stay due to the restaurant situation. My guess is owning group has a generic concept they follow and it isn’t working because they don’t understand that creates no personality which means it will fail most likely over and over and the problem is them.

Dirty tables- will be the title of my post…The food was such a disappointment. I should have gone to a taco truck downtown. What the heck is going on at this place. In what world is this a “nice French restaurant “…?? Good grief! I’m new to Portland from Los Angeles and I was eager to try this place. There is no way that this place is considered fine or even decent dining. I’m disappointed. We sat next to a table full of extra loud foul mouthed patrons. I understand that the restaurant cannot control this - but this is just my example of the ambience. We had to find and excuse to walk away for a bit, so we went to the restroom since all of the tables were filthy. The table that we ended up with was rocking back-and-forth. Thankfully we had to switch because the people were talking so loudly next to us and cursing up a storm. I felt like I was at a baseball game. I’d say that this restaurant is not someplace that I’d ever visit again. Disappointing menu. Poor temperature food. Fish “balls” (not patties) tasted like there were previously frozen…horrible! waste of time and money.

Great food, well prepared. Milo was an attentive and friendly server. Her food recommendations were spot on. The small plates allowed us to dine on four courses at a leisurely pace as we listened to the well curated music (Milo's playlist). The room was warm with decor that was eclectic class. We hope to return soon!

I came to visit Portland from NYC to drop my daughter off to college. I had a very nice stay here in this hotel. The rooms are very clean & quiet. Very comfortable beds and a large deep bathtub separate from the shower. While I was here they offered a $15 voucher on food for each day. The food is very good too. I loved the overnight oats and breakfast w eggs and hash. I didn’t get to try dinner here bc I was usually out by then. Service is very good in general all around. Also they provided umbrellas when rainy out. It is also centrally located easy walk to Pearl District and Nob Hill or over the bridge to Hawthorne with a conveniently public transportation/route out front as well. Lots of nice luxury shops around here too. I would definitely stay here again. Great value, great location, and a great hotel/staff overall.

Great hotel to explore Portland from, walkable from major spots and great food options. Staff could not be more helpful and friendly, rooms are extremely comfortable, clean, and chique. Front desk is super friendly and quick to answer inquiries, valet service crew was super responsive and personable, treated our rolling dumpster rental like a rolls. Great coffee in the lobby and the hotel restaurant is a solid spot for a snack or quick breakfast.

The front desk guy gave me some of the best customer service I have ever received. He was kind, accommodating, and was a true steward of this hotels brand. Actually, all the staff were amazing. Also, there were no surprises when it came to charges which I really appreciated. I will make this my new home when I visit Portland. Thank you for making me feel welcome!
