Quite the exclusive coffee shop they do not take cash, except in tips, so anybody who walks in there without a piece of plastic money will not get service or a drink.

A quintessential Portland coffee experience. Great coffee and beans for sale. Lots and lots of tables. Hint - buy a baked treat from nextdoor Bakeshop and get coffee here and hang out.

Great spot for a coffee drink and pastry or bagel. Our service dog, Pogo, loved it as well. The microfoam on the oat milk cappuccino was impressively done - silky smooth.

I have never had a bad experience at Case Study. It's been consistently amazing. The staff are friendly and the coffee tastes amazing. Hands down, my favorite coffee shop in all of Portland.

It is illegal in oregon not to except cash. It is discriminatory.

Terrible and downright hostile service. Went here today after a workout at Hollywood Fitness. At this point I hadn’t been to this cafe in over a year as I previously worked out elsewhere and hadn’t frequented the neighborhood. Unaware of the business hours I pull into the parking spot directly in front of the door and notice that the barista is putting away the sign that was outside. I asked if they were still open, and she said “we’re closing right now”, and then I said “so it’s too late to get a drink I’m guessing”, to which she said “no, I can make you something”. Please note that I was not imposing or pressuring this person to make a coffee at all, she had offered to make one. So I go and ask for my typical drink that I get at cafes, pay, and tip $2 cash like I normally do. Then we both engage in mutual conversation where she is asking me questions and seemingly purposely engaging in the conversation. The coffee drink is finished and then I receive it and say thank you. Then she suddenly changes demeanor and says “you should know that if you want to get served, don’t show up right when we’re about to close”, I mention that “I didn’t know your hours, and was checking it out because it was right next to the gym. You could’ve told me no” She then says “you see me putting things away and trying to close, so you know for next time, don’t show up right when we’re closing if you want to be served”. The tone and demeanor was very unfriendly and confrontational. A few gripes I have with this situation are that1. I didn’t know that they closed at 4:00pm and had said that, so I was clearly not purposefully trying to beat the clock.2. I was out of the cafe by 4:01 with my drink. And 3. The barista completely invited me in to order a drink, even though I was fully prepared to get one elsewhere, which in hindsight I would have knowing how terrible the service would be and how I would be guilted and berated for going along with what I thought was someone else’s hospitality. That was the absolute worst experience I have ever had at any cafe in my 28 years of existence and I will definitely not return here and would strongly advise anyone against patronizing this business unless you want to to risk having a damper put on your day by an aggressive barista. Past experiences here inspire memories of below average, sterile espresso, splintery floors, and uncomfortable furniture.

Case Study is in need of some TLC. The floors are so worn I think they don’t think anyone will notice how dirty they are. The walls need painting, the furniture is worn out- it just feels shabby even if the basic decor is good. My $7.50 lavender oat milk latte was luke warm. There aren’t many coffee shops in this area so better options are limited.

I love their hazelnut lattes, and their treats from Petunia's are a bonus. Cozy café feel at all their locations.

Worst coffee I have ever tasted in my life. How is this place even in business?

Really good homemade syrups. Had coffee from here twice. Had the vanilla and hazelnut kinds and both were *chef’s kiss*

What a great coffee shop. First time here - met a friend for coffee and conversation. Americano was delecious! Full of dark roasted, Arabic flavor and served piping hot. Nice area for a relaxing visit (along with a dozen others) but not loud. I enjoyed my hour here.
