Very unfortunate that I tried to come here, after a long drive to try this place, and they were closed even though supposedly open. Called just to check and the automated voicemail said that they close early if they run out of soup... how about try not to run out of soup? Make enough to serve your customers until the end of the day, or change your hours to guarantee you'll have soup for the allotted open hours. Also if this is something that happens often, at the bare minimum have a social media presence or something to update if you are close to running out/closing for the day so that people don't end up making the drive to come try your food and getting disappointed. Will update if I ever get to come back through town to try this, but horrible customer service is already more than a let down.

I lived in Vietnam for 3 years and as soon as I walked in, it felt like “ home” (I was born there but raised in the states) The sights, sounds and smells brought me back. This unassuming no frills family run humble place only serves 2 soups a day (3 on wed) but does them well. Come early before they run out because even though it says they’re open until 4, they often run out by noon. I’ve been twice. Once on a Friday at noon and was one of the last ones to order the pho ga. On a Wednesday we went at 11am and they only had one out of the 3 soups left. Will plan accordingly next time. Anxious to try their sister establishments. I briefly spoke to Peter and had a lovely chat. He works diligently to accommodate his customers and is consistent with the quality of his food. Well done Peter! ????I’ll be coming back again

Took the drive only to find out they were closed because they ran out of soup at 11:30am on a Saturday

Lovely place. Both soups were 9/10. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Get here early because they do sell out of soups.

I love their Turmeric Noodle which is only served on Sundays (but on Saturdays at their sister company RoseVL on SE Powells) and often drive all the way from Beaverton. The only problem (that prevents me from giving HaVL 5 stars) is that lately (within the last 2 years) the soup is only served at luke warm (instead of hot sizzling) temperature, which, I believe, is a big NO for noddle soup!

If you want a place with a menu that is limited to the best someone could ever do a thing then this is your place. This is the exact transverse of The Cheesecake Factory. They have two offerings per day, instead of a 47 page menu. And I swear it will be the most perfect two things you've ever experienced. Choose what you will, but try every day's choices at some point

Fresh and authentic Vietnamese soupsThey are open from 8:00 but usually sell out by noon. This is a no frill. Friendly, nice people and fresh food. Simple settings. A bit hard to find parking.

I can't sing HaVL's praises enough. I am a big sucker for good soup and I highly recommend everything I've tried here, you really cannot go wrong. Their portions are solid and their depth of flavor is literally unparalleled, I am just so comforted whenever I come here. The turmeric noodle soup (Sundays) is probably my favorite and I haven't found it elsewhere. Very family-owned vibe in a small location, and service is always fast & friendly. Don't come too late in the day as they will probably sell out, and sometimes they are randomly closed for vacations or holidays so maybe call them ahead of time just in case!
