This place is really fun! The vibes are great and they will not rush you out the door (defeating the point of an Izakaya) It's a bit pricey and while the food is good. Its not ground breaking, but if you want actual Izakaya vibes this is the only place I've found in all of Oregon let alone Portland that fits the bill.

In a city now somewhat desperate for an Izakaya powerhouse, Kichinto crushes it at a high level. Tucked away on NE Russell street Kichinto has those neighborhood vibes and atmosphere, hospitality, and soul. The chicken katsu curry is one of the best I’ve had in my life and is an absolute comfort fix!
Went on a popular night so service was a bit slow. Food is great and lots of vegan options.

We like our sushi rolls, salmon, seaweed salad, and miso soup. We would probably pass on ordering the calamari again (just too much crunchy breading to calamari meat ratio). Service was good and very friendly, but water and iced tea were not refilled. We would return again as food and friendly service were good.
I just wanted some late night ramen (this place is open until 11 pm on Thursdays) but I had no idea how amazing the experience and the food would be. Totally reminded me of some of the homey ramen shops I've been to in Japan???

I’ve been going here since 2021 and the food is great! However they’ve definitely gone downhill after Covid, because before Covid I had DoorDash pickups from here and the place was always lively. The low rating refers to their mid staff, unclean restaurant, and pricing. There’s been a dead spider cocooned in its web in the bathroom for over 9 months. Flies attacking me while I eat, and overall lack of dusting. God knows what happens in the kitchen - which is why I don’t eat here that much now.As for the staff they’re always rotating staff members. When I first went they had 10+ employees and it was great. Now they have 1-3 at any given time. And only one guy there I really like - the rest seem slow, incompetent and shouldn’t be working there. Again the food is good, but everything else ??My spicy miso used to be $15 for regular $17 for large. And the fried gyoza was $5 for 5 pieces. Then 17/20 for the miso. Now 17/25 for the miso and $8 for the gyoza. The food is good but not this good!
My favorite izakaya in Portland. Loads of options and everything is always fresh and flavorful. They update the menu regularly enough and rotate specials so there's always something new to try.
It's a rare thing when you can feel the culture and unique culinary influence of a place by just going to a restaurant with your friends to have a good time and eat some food. This is that place. The service is attentive, the food is pristine, and it won't break the bank by any means. Such a fun and unique experience
Amazing food! And outstanding service.Loved the sushi, loved the ramen. All love. The only place in portland you'll find curry ramen that's also vegan!

The food was very fresh and flavorful. Came in at 10 pm and service was still great! Spicy ramen broth was amazing and California roll was crisp. The ambiance was very serene and I loved the set up of the tables. Overall loved it as an Angeleno!

I love this place. Best food period. Service is amazing. The head chef is a true master of his craft. Staff is understanding and very helpful when you need help pronouncing things.
