A visit to Portland wouldn’t be complete without a dinner at Marrakesh. Always amazing in every way and tonight was no different. We celebrated a birthday with a delicious, authentic five course meal and wonderful Moroccan red wine while a belly dancer entertained us. So fun. The atmosphere creates such a chill vibe and Swerky, our server, made sure everything was perfect. So much more on the menu that I want to explore. Add this stop to your plans and thank me later

What a unique and delicious experience. Loved how immersive the atmosphere and eating process was. Mohammed showed us the ropes for our first time and was very kind and helpful. Excellent service and the beef was juicy. Everything was popping off with flavor. All in all extremely memorable and satisfying.

I have been visiting this restaurant for a couple decades and I can truthfully say that as far as North African cuisine goes, it is without pure in the Northwest aside from its sister restaurant in Seattle. The five course meal is delightful. The Bastille Royale is a very unique appetizer. They have the best richest lentil soup I've ever had and a wonderful, salad Mediterranean African salad. The main dish is the only parts of it you choose. I had a sweet lamb dish done up with raisins onions and honey. It was absolutely delightful the food was perfectly cooked. The conclusion was washing our hands with orange blossom water and enjoying a light milk pudding with coconut and shaved almonds. The atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful. You sat on small mats on the floor and on benches. The interior ceiling was made up to look like a tent in North Africa and they had a delightful belly dancer. My boyfriend and I had an absolutely delightful time. After experiencing a disappointing meal at a restaurant that I had found memories of a few weeks ago, it is absolutely a positive feeling to revisit Marrakesh that I haven't been to in almost a decade and see if it not only has not lost a step but actually if anything is better than ever. Do yourself a favor and go to this restaurant. As a side note, I forgot to mention value this five course mail cost between $29 and $33 depending on entree choice easily the best value that I at least have encountered in Portland.

I lived in Morocco for four years and the food was pretty bland at this place. The service was even worse. Our server appeared to be intoxicated.During service she forgot to do our hand washing, she forgot to give us bread with our soup. She said she could make an appetizer vegetarian then brought out the meat version anyways. We asked about tea and she said it came with the meal at the end or we could pay extra to have it at the start of our courses. We opted to wait so we wouldn’t pay extra but she brought it out anyways. But she forgot glasses. After retrieving glasses she poured the tea (not in the traditional Moroccan manner I might add) and spilled tea. The second time she came by she knocked over a glass completely. We also heard a loud crash of something in the back room and assumed it was her. The tea itself wasn’t that hot and wasn’t as sweet as teas I’ve had in Morocco. Finally, she asked us if we wanted a box for leftovers and we told her no thank you… we were staying in a hotel with no fridge. She brought a box anyway literally ten seconds later. We also observed countless other mishaps at other tables. For example she “washed” the hands of one table’s guests and then about two minutes later came back to the same table and tried to do it all over again. In addition to the poor service the place had a dingy atmosphere and the carpets looked old, worn and dirty. And not in a way that adds character. The music was also slightly loud.I thought the lentil soup was excellent but that was about it.

An original restaurant. Polite, friendly staff. Unusual menu. You order a main course, and there will be several other dishes to go along with it. Before the main course, you will be served appetizers with bread. Bread is brought in unlimited quantities in baskets. The interior is authentic with oriental draperies. On weekends - belly dancing.Parking is a bit tight.

This is a NIGHTMARE of an experience. Right from the door the server was extremely rude and wanted to seat us right behind the door where the door would have slammed against our back every time someone opened it. Servers were very rude ESPECIALLY the host. The seating was extremely uncomfortable..food very rushed..tiny portions very underwhelming for the money you pay and they charged us for mint tea that we didn't even order that they forced on our table. Lamb is gray, undercooked and chewy. Desert a tiny bowl of fruit "probably from a can" with some cinnamon on it. And the bread is a brick.. ended up paying $200+ for 4 people and everyone left hungry and missed the show of the famous "billy dancing" since they rushed all the tiny portions out the kitchen to get us out.

Everything was amazing, as always. Sadly we got there too late for the belly dancer's performance.

You'd think a place with floor seating and padding everywhere with an otherwise wonderful belly dancing show and finger food would be a good place to bring your young kids but it's not.I was told literally it was, "so dangerous," for I and my toddler to be wandering around on the floor because, "servers are carrying heavy objects and moving very fast." Which strikes me as absurd for anyone with any kind of spatial awareness as I'm sure most of their servers do have.I have an active toddler and it's hard to find a place out where his energy is welcome and where we feel comfortable just being ourselves.
