Wu-Rons is the new best place for ramen in Portland. I almost don’t want to tell people because it was so easy and fast to get a bowl of their Nagahama Tonkotsu ramen. The menu is simple and authentic. The old Noraneko space it resides in has been simplified as well, making the space easier to be in while maintaining its dignity as a spot to get a solid bowl of ramen. It is cliche for someone like me, a 30 year old nerd, to say “I’ve had a lot of ramen” but it’s true. Across Japan and throughout Portland. Ramen restaurants stateside often struggle to present the real experience of one of Japan’s key foods. It doesn’t need to be elevated or exotic or chic to be special. Solid broth. Solid noodles. Solid chashu. Assembled cleanly. Something a truck driver traveling through Fukuoka could get on a rainy day. That’s Wu-Rons and I can’t wait to go back.
