We stayed here for a weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were not disappointed. The place is historic and old as dirt. But they've done a wonderful job preserving this great venue. Hardly a bad seat in the house. For the 2 nights we were here, the music was top notch. The food is remarkably yummy, the service is great and the people and vibe is fantastic. Our room was cozy and the bathroom updated. The surrounding area makes for a nice place to wander. If you're a big jazz fan or clueless, this is simply an enjoyable experience.

Oldest jazz club in USA. Music was phenomenal. Rooms were clean but old fashioned. No TV.Cover charge wasn't high but extra $1 if you didn't use cash.

We have visited many times. Our overall experience had always been awesome and fun.Last night/12.30.2023, we visited for my daughter’s 19th birthday. The decorations and simply the place was lovely and holiday festive-looking. The inn was the birthday girl’s pick, which was exciting to us.The hostess was pleasant and a woman said thanks for coming on our way out. There was live music which was wonderful. As some of us are musicians ourselves, we always enjoy the profession live music! I gladly paid the $15/person music fee upon entering.Last night, our server was so sweet and nice and even wrote Happy Birthday on the bill with a smiley. However, a 20% large party fee was added to the bill without anyone mentioning that prior to me. (There were seven of us. However, we all shared one app. We asked for fries to share as two plate-apps but they were not available. A few of us had one drink. We then had a plate each. So, we were not a busy table.)The chicken sandwiches, which a few of us have had several times before there, were super salty last night or brined in too much salt (not counting the bacon). The waitress took our food order earlier than our dinner time, which we thought was good. By the time we got our food though, about an hour or more after ordering, I did not want to send the 3 salty plates back and possibly have to wait another hour for new food.Would I go back? Definitely. Was this a great experience this time around? No. I work PT in catering. I know all the details about why an experience such as last night can happen. I empathize with all that work in the food industry, especially now-a-days.However, I would hope the staff would take my notes and discuss this review.I paid the extra fee with reluctance which was approximately $32.00. and left a nice tip, as our waitress earned it. I could have asked if that fee was the tip (not noted as tip on the bill) but I did not.I could have asked to have that fee waived, as we all financially are sometimes struggling. I did not.I would go back and I look forward to doing so many more times. I hope our next experience is as usual, close to perfect. Would I recommend my piano students’ families to visit the Deer Head Inn, yes!

Visited on a Sunday night for a casual dinner and some great live jazz by La Cuchina and the food, service and especially the music were absolutely fantastic. My friend is a jazz aficionado and comes here often, but it was my first time and have to say the place is truly one of a kind. Historic, friendly staff, classy audience that really appreciates great life music, and very reasonable prices. Can't wait to return!Food & drinks: Simple menu but everything we ordered was very good. Bartender made a fantastic Manhattan. I wouldn't classify this as fine dining and it doesn't need to be. It's a jazz and dinner club and the combination is unique and irresistible.

The only reason I am not giving this five stars is due to the dessert. My husband and I went on the rare treat of going out. We chose this place based on Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. We definitely recommend this place. From the friendly and accommodating staff to the incredibly superb and tasty meals, it is all wrapped up nicely by professional musicians playing music from another era. I ordered the baked salmon with roasted vegetables and risotto cake. Just excellent. My husband ordered the sesame ahi tuna with wild rice and seasonal vegetables. The presentation was picture worthy. I don't know why we didn't take pictures. He says it was delectable. For starters, we got the Mezze platter, which consists of hummus, roasted eggplant, tomato dip, roasted red peppers, and olive with pita wedges. Having these mediterranean flavors as a starter was a bonus. To end our night, we ordered dessert. My husband ordered the chocolate mousse, which was wonderful, and I tasted. I ordered the highlighted dessert the lemon tart. I have had this confection throughout my life And have to say this was too tart of a tart. The raspberry sauce drizzled across the plate was so tart. It made my lips purse. Is other than that, it was such a nice night.
