Our group of 10 dined at Dobbin House on April 26th. The experience would've earned 5 stars, however, our waitress made a few comments that didn't need to be made. As she went down the table, taking food and drinks orders, she looked at the woman who made the reservation and remarked " You should've eaten in the tavern area" and then proceeded to explain the bread baskets were only complimentary with entree orders. We had several people order entrees and many others who ordered multiple appetizers as their entree. We had no issue being charged for the bread baskets but could've done without the side of attitude they were served with. The food and drinks were incredible, especially the crab and avocado appetizer.

Food & drinks: Dobbins is a step back in time from the rustic atmosphere to the staffs attire. Great service, food, and drinks. Pat was a wonderful bartender in the Tavern.

The French onion soup and breads are great. Love the full meal you get. Not taking off star, but steak was a tad dry.

Went with my fiancé for the first time here tonight for my birthday and let me tell you, everything was perfect. The ambience, food and service was beyond stellar. The prime rib and baked onion soup was amazing. Rum bellies drink was on the money. I’m still overwhelmed with the amazing experience we had there tonight. Special thank you to our waiter Cliff for being so personable and knowledgeable about the restaurant history and menu. We will definitely be back. Thank you Dobbin House for making my birthday dinner one for the books.

Dobbin House tavern and restaurant is like stepping into the past.It is beautiful and interesting in many ways. The food is excellent the service is excellent. The only issue was that they are not flexible with the menu. The online menu is misleading because it seems like there's a variety. But, when you get there you find out that they have two menus and two kitchens and they do not mix them. That's fine but it would have been good to know this way ahead of us reserving and sitting upstairs where the menu is more expensive and not flexible. To give you an example: my teenager wanted a cesar salad with chicken. They don't have that on the menu but the waiter, in his effort to give us what we asked for charged us for more than the regular price of a chicken cesar. Our waiter was wonderful, he did the best he could with such a large group. But the menu options were limited to the time period of the house which makes sense. But again, not flexible.

We Were Scolded for Eating Here - Our group of 10 reserved dining in the upstairs dining area on Friday, April 26th. Several of us had already had lunch in the tavern section on prior days but we wanted our group dinner in the upstairs dining room. I think everybody loved their food. We also liked the atmosphere. The issue came in with our server, Lisa. We ordered drinks, some entrees, and some side items. When those of us ordering sides (baked potato, salads, smaller portions) were finished, Lisa yelled (yes, yelled) that dinner rolls were only for people ordering entrees. We said no problem, we'll order extra baskets of bread. We ordered them and were charged for them but did not receive them. No worries, we weren't going to be hassled by bread. After our table finished ordering, we were told if we didn't all want entrees, we should have just eaten in the tavern. We had already tried the tavern experience and the people ordering entrees wouldn't have been able to get them in the tavern (I think - she wasn't clear on that). At the end of the day, we wanted to try the upstairs option and it was our option to do so, our money to spend. If they didn't want people ordering anything besides entrees, they should not have those options on the menu. We didn't stay to try any of the desserts. I don't really think this was a Dobbins House problem, I think this was a Lisa the Server problem. However, I will skip Dobbins the next time I'm in town.

Had lunch in the tavern. Loved the atmosphere. Food was delicious!

Although this place is heaven to my relative, my wife and I were very disappointed. Their famous French onion soup had a gross layer of cheese on it. The dark, crowded dining area had a claustrophobia feel.

Tables to close together not much privacy!

a fine fun place to dine. Service is excellent for Gettysburg. Have taken many people there and never had a complaint. Recommend prime rib and crab cakes.

Blue Cheese Burger was great but our waitress was too busy with a large crowd and not very attentive and a bit short with our menu questions. "The sides are written on the menu" with a bit of an attitude.
