We had an absolutely wonderful meal at Hillside Cafe this evening. We decided to eat at the bar and Richard took very good care of us. I had a berry punch that was so delicious I had to have another. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday so we splurged. I got the House Special of a filet mignon (cooked perfectly) and a crabcake. Their crab cakes can not be beat! My husband got the T-bone and added a lobster tail he said they were both cooked perfectly. We could not leave without their peanut butter pie, so we got it to go. Hillside is our go to for fantastic food.

This has become a staple of my family over the last couple of years. If I am not working the weekend, we are at the Shoppes for quality food at a fair price. My meal of choice is typically an omelet with bacon peppers and onions cooked to perfection smothered with cheese. I have this accompanied by a plate of toast covered in delicious creamy chipped beef gravy. I have also ventured to many other breakfast options such as the French toast meal and their scrapple egg and cheese sandwiches. All of which have come out pleasing. The children also have repeat items, which lead me to believe breakfast isn't the only good thing going on here. From steak subs to burgers, tenders, and fries, this place has something for everyone. Last weekend, I watched them bring out a Bald Hill Burger for the first time, and it was a monster. The gentleman who indulged in it gladly praised its flavors. As I mentioned, I will be continuing to visit this establishment as long as it is available.Vegetarian options: Limited but can make small salads upon request.Kid-friendliness: Free treats for children and also has a small table of toys and games to occupy young ones as you wait. Kids' options are plentiful on the menu with drinks as wellWheelchair accessibility: Ground level accessDietary restrictions: Accommodating

We were party of seven and each of us were so pleased with how special they made us feel from the moment we stepped inside. They gave us a private dining room without us even asking them. It was so nice for us to visit without having to deal with other conversations. And then to make it even more special, our server was Darlene! Never met her before but she felt like a member of the family by the time we left. She is off the charts the best!!! Darlene knew the menu inside and out. Nothing was a bother for her, and she was cheerful and so engaging! The food was phenomenal, too. The portions were plentiful and so tasty. The staff at Hillside was so gracious and accommodating for my large family and we are absolutely going to be back! Hopefully, we'll get Darlene at our table again. Can't stop singing her praises! Stop in. You won't regret anything but that you weren't there sooner! ~ The Robertson family

Past signs for this restaurant on the highway for years. Finally decided to stop for lunch on the way back from Baltimore. Glad we did. Very nice restaurant. Clean, well lit, for lunch. Staff is very friendly, attentive, and efficient. Menu, is very nice selection, especially for lunch. Seafood to steak to less value items. I got a seafood broil. Very good. Portion was nice, sometimes of these you over pay and walk away almost hungry. Salad was cool and free, baked potato was nicely done. Wife had a crabcake, she enjoyed. Crab soup was very good and for the price. Portions were correct and price was relative to todays economy and compensative with what we ordered (i.e. we didnt order a cheese burge and fries for $15bucks). Will definitely eat there again.

First time here. We were given menus that had the prices scratched out and written over which we found strange. We ordered and then waited and waited and waited until getting our food over an hour after we ordered. This was at 2:00 in the afternoon and they weren’t super busy. I understand that they are probably short staffed but several tables who came in after us and ordered after us received their food and were done eating before we received our food. We had the ribs which were cold and the sauce was watery and the flavor was strange. Also, the soda was flat.

Highly recommend the hills hash- the workers are super nice and accommodating. We ordered a hills hash without onions and the female employee cooked that order on its own in a different pan to make sure no onions got in it.

Stay away. Service is friendly, but it took about an hour to get our food. I could understand completely if they were busy, but there was only 1 other table waiting for food ?‍♀️ I have no idea how they are still in business. Maybe it’s bc of the friendly wait service. I would give it 0 stars but have to do at least 1.

Been wanting to try this since they rebuilt and gave it a go for dinner. Once we were seated, it took a good 15 minutes just to place our drink order. The service did not speed up from there. The prices were also fairly high compared to similar restaurants in the area. The food was good but not great especially when you consider the prices. I know food prices are climbing but service should be a little more on point...it felt like we were an afterthought the entire time. Maybe it was an off-night, but it going to be a long time before we think about coming back.

We stopped at the Cafe for a quick dinner. I have not been there in years. I know its a steakhouse, but I ordered the Atlantic Salmon. Usually I ask the wait staff to have it prepared medium rare because well done salmon is too dry, but.....I forgot. The salmon arrived and it was prepared PERFECTLY- moist with light seasoning. The portion was large and the two sides- greek salad- very fresh and stuffed potato- very tasty. Margaret was our waiter and she was friendly and attentive. The meal exceeded my expectations - thanks- it was a great ending for a busy day.

Stopped with friends after a few days of camping at Codorus State Park. Hadn't been there since before the fire. Food and service were excellent! No exceptions. Owner stopped by our table to ask how everything was.

Easy in and easy out. Fairly prompt service. I don't have much else to say so I am just typing to use up the 100 required characters. When I get that far i'll stop typing. This is the only bad part about writing this review.

Stopped for a sandwich and was very disappointed. Service: Good Value: Fair. Food quality: Barely average. The meatball sub was tasteless. I won't go back.

This was our first visit since the fire. I was seated next to a gas fireplace, and I think I sweated off every calorie I took in. The service is what kept this place off the "4" list, along with the wall to wall TV's, including one featuring a horse race every 5 minutes so you could sit at the bar and go bankrupt. The steaks were good, but short of great; but it was hard to find ANY filler in the crab cakes, including the fabulous stuffed mushroom caps (appetizer). Overall, it's certainly worth a shot.

Was in the area for a weekend tournament for my daughter. Was looking for a place to eat and found Hillside Cafe. Really nice place with great food ! We had wings that were terrific and burgers as well. Our waitress, Crystal, was extremely attentive and very friendly. They're lucky to have someone who is so good. We're coming back for another tournament in the spring and will definitely return !

This "local" hangout has been around for a long time. Not long a go a fire destroyed the place know for great steaks and great atmopshere. They rebuilt some time ago and we have not stopped in a long time...WOWZA...great food, still. Great servers and that "local" feel that I really enjoy. Don't miss it if you are in the area.
