I like the food the portions are perfect and so is price the service though can use a little tuning. I noticed that this place caters more to their usual customers I sat for a good 8mins before they got to me people walked in after me and were being taken care of and were regulars I understand but definitely need to work on service

I have never experienced the level of racism from a restaurant establishment like I did today at Mel’s diner. My Hispanic family of 4 walked in on a Sunday morning and waited to be seated. This was my second time visiting Mel’s dinner as the food itself is very good.We were completely ignored by all staff members for five minutes. After approaching the lady at the cash register and asked her if we could be seated, she stated “pick a spot if you find one. Someone will clean it up for you”. Okay. That’s not a problem. So we proceeded to find a booth that have been vacated. After waiting for a few minutes, no one case over to clean up the table. I approached a waitress and asked her if she would be able to clean the table for us and she stated, “I’m not going over there are cleaning that up for you. I’m on this side. I’m not doing that”. She chuckled and she stated this, publicly humiliating, mean in front of other guests. I walked away and then my husband asked another waitress who also stated the same thing, and that she had a bigger party to attend to. Did not receive offer to help us either. Such was the interaction that a local priest came outside after we left and apologized for the treatment we received. He stated that the owner is “not like this”. I will never step foot in this restaurant again. I hope that all staff receives the bias training. Until then, I caution all non-white patrons when visiting this establishment. My family immediately drove to Heisey’s where we were treated with the respect we deserve.

Food was good. Good size portions. Service was ok. Had to wait for the waitress to finish socializing with other customers to get waited on after giving our drink order. That took at least 10 minutes and it wasn't busy. (When I say socializing I mean it had nothing to do with ordering food or anything else associated with the job. ) not trying to be ugly...just stating the facts.

The minute the server came to the table, I asked for the drinks and politely asked if I could have plastic utensils and immediately she said...was the reason? We don't have any is only for take out ?I said to her that everytime I come in , I ask for plastic utensils and there has never been a problem. And as she walked away with a not very nice attitude, she whispered something to the lady behind the counter. She then comes to my table sets the plasticwear on the table and walks away. I believe that everyone is entitled to be treated equally and with respect, we are not eating here for free. She really ruined my day.NOTE: is still a great place to dine. Not sure why the treatment by this specific lady03/19/24

Was super excited to try a very traditional Diner. With that said the staff was super nice to their common customers but gave horrible service to an "out of town guy" order wasn't right the cream chip beef was a really weird consistency the scrapple was disgusting and the waitress never checked in with me just kept walking by.......The only gem in this place was the other customers they made me feel more welcome then the staffOh and watch your step going in or you'll be on your faceThanks but no thanks never again

The only thing that I can say is that they really need a sign that says please watch or step or step up please the gentleman in the restaurant said that there is a sign if you call being all most to the ground doesn’t count sorry especially for people that don’t live in the area and needless to say I fell and it was like to bad you should have seen the sign the sign was on the step as you walked into the restaurant I would like to know how many people look at the ground while they are walking into an establishment

Under cooked eggs and sausage, plus molding jelly, put a damper on our appetite.
