Swagger Forever

I went to this place 4/12/24 . After reading some of the reviews I was skeptical but it was actually not bad, cleaner than the last one I went to, and has more to do seemingly. The only thing I would complain about is the rooms need more air as it gets hot. But not bad i would probably go back.

A mess. Rat outside was more friendly. Friday night, only 20 ppl maybe, all was spread to 4 floors. Up and down. While leaving, I heard angry front desk employee to be abusive to a black guy outside, using profanity. It doesn't matter what business you are in, have some decency.

So I was told by someone who used to work there that the old, unattractive, washed up, Queen that works at the front Will purposely add Black and POC names to the bottom of the list when waiting for a room on busy nights regardless of when you got there. I believe this! I went there a couple times last summer, last time I got there at 6 PM and wasn’t called for a room until 3 AM (at which point I was leaving). It is extremely sad when small people abuse their small power to try to harass people who are better than them in every single way!

This place accepts cards and/or cash (whatever payment method you prefer).I went there, and the cost for 8 hours (one day pass) is 30 dollars total (incling room and locker and towel), remember to bring slippers or sandals with you because they don't sell them and it's not good to be barefoot everywhere. this place has a gym (a few dumbells and 2 more gym machines) and a steam room (hot wet oven) and a sauna (hot dry oven). they are both nice and calming. There are also showers so you can take a shower after you're done. there is soap in the showers, but it's preferred you bring your own because it's not good quality soap they have. there are dark rooms that have a sling in them and a screen for watching. free condoms are provided. most people walk around to find someone they are interested in. if you are not interested and someone approaches you, simply say I'm not interested and they will walk away. it is a bit scary if it's your first time, but after you walk in their for 2 minutes and see the place, you get used to it. also, at this place is a nice balcony outside in which you can smoke and vape as much as you need and then come back in. some people experience problems but I haven't and the staff were friendly.

Website says $24 for a locker, plus “membership and towel fee”. Last night I tried to go with another person and they were trying to charge us $74 total for 2 lockers. We ended up leaving. That’s way too expensive for someone just trying to visit for a few hours from out of town. Why would you charge membership and towel fees? Not interested in becoming a “member” and towel fees should already be covered with the $24 to get into the place.

Overpriced, rude staff, the bare minimum in the way of amenities, apparent contempt for their clientele. In other words, a typical Philly gay business. If Steamworks set up shop here, Club Philly would be out of business in under a month.

This is a copy of a letter I mailed them, and to date, have not yet received a response. This review will stand, until I receive satisfactory resolution."Dear Manager:On June 13, 2021, I entered your establishment and purchased a 6-month pass, as well as dues to enter the club. I then returned on July 24, and the man who was behind the counter held me up for about a half hour, after I confirmed for him that I had purchased the above 6-month membership. Initially, he charged me for a full day pass. He then spent the better part of the half-hour going through a small pack of receipts, about 6 times in total, unable to find one or both receipts from June 13. He stated that he didn’t see any 6-month membership in the system for me. I have bank records to prove all of this.In my opinion, there was no need for this. I felt harassed. There were members behind be, waiting in line. I was professional in my communication with him, yet he raised his voice at me several times, seeming defensive, when this was unnecessary. Finally, I got to my room. After a couple of hours, Eric, one of the staff members, unlocked my locked door, while I was in the room, without announcing himself. This was a complete violation of my privacy, and was inexcusable, as at no time was I doing anything illegal – the only reason I can think of, why he would have been justified in doing so. As if this wasn’t enough, a few minutes later, he returned, and knocked on my door about a half a dozen times. When I asked him from the other side of the locked door to please stop, he stated that he wanted to get my last name. I respectfully refused. I don’t understand why he couldn’t have gotten this from the above front desk staff, or look this information up on the computer himself, as I was already checked in.Within 10 minutes, I got dressed, cleaned everything out of my locker, and left, as a direct result of this staff member’s unauthorized entry into my room. Upon exiting your facility, I dropped off a note for the staff member who initially greeted me, asking for you to please call me at your earliest convenience. I was asked why, and I explained the above to him; that I would like a refund of my stay from that day, as well as a refund of the 6-month membership, due to the above missteps from your staff. That was over 3 weeks ago, and I still have not heard back from anyone at your business. I would appreciate a call or letter, explaining your intentions moving forward, if I am to ever return.Thank you for your consideration regarding this matter, in advance."Update: MONTHS later, I was sent a letter that stated I was banned. For reporting an employee for inexcusable behavior? #SHADY

Generally I like to support this place and I think the folks who work here are very nice and welcoming. I have enjoyed it here in the past however, last night I called ahead to check how things were, and they said it was pretty busy - but when i arrived i saw all of three people, a couple and one other who was chatting with the staff. The sauna was closed, So I stayed about 20 min and left. Pretty disappointing - at 38 dollars a locker it just wasn't worth it. Sad, as I'm not sure I'd return.

A warning for members & visitors: I recently heard that some of the club staff has decided to gang up a start voting to permanently ban club members. Bans were being issued to individuals that certain staff had selected based on their own biases and backed up with no evidence other than the staff making up fictitious incidents/violations throwing out false accusations based on hearsay. It is no doubt these are the same staff that are referred to as “rude” and otherwise hostile in other reviews people have posted. Based on what I am hearing the bans are aimed at people that these staff members have some sort of personal beef with which is plain wrong because that means they will do it to anyone they feel like. It’s a shame that instead of preserving the club as a safe space these staff are abusing their authority and, worst of all, spreading rumors by talking about it with others at the club. (Admittedly, that’s how I found about it in the first place.) I just think it’s wrong. Staff shouldn’t be allowed to protect or punish members based on who they want to sleep with no matter what kind of establishment you are running. Do better.
