Food - tasteless, specifically the efo riro, ewedu , and fried rice (-2/10). Jollof wasn’t terrible (5/10). Assorted meats were good. (7/10)Service - we were a large party, they should’ve told us if they couldn’t accommodate our numbers (which we found out late was the case). Instead we waiting 2 hours for tasteless food… pretty awful experience. We asked for chin chin while waiting for the 2 hours - and we were charged for every serving. Which is expected but after such ridiculous wait times courtesy would’ve been in good taste. Honesty versus “15 more minutes” would’ve also been in good taste. Also mains should come out with sides… you’d think this is obvious that they intend to be eaten together.Atmosphere - smelled really bad (like raw meat) when we arrived. At first they wanted to have us on the second floor but (shockingly) it smelt worse down there then upstairs !I’ve never had to negatively review an atmosphere before … :(Go anywhere else

I had a mashed bean dish with plantains. I don’t know what they did, but the beans were surprisingly good. I also had a taste of someone’s yams which were spicy and excellent. I was not in love with the palm wine.

I’ve never seen a more poorly run restaurant in Old City, nobody there cares…they take an incredibly longer time than they should to fulfill every order, we’re talking waiting like 20 min longer than when it was supposed to be ready. I eagerly await this place to go out of business so that we can have a nice restaurant where the employees care.

I was very disappointed by my meal here, both the food and the price. The food was very expensive, and most of what we got was riceThe Jollof rice, while tasty, was $15 for a single portion of rice with nothing else in it. The Ewa Goyin (beans and plantains) was similarly priced - the plantains were fine, the beans were essentially tastelessOne of our party was not an adventurous eater - for her we got shrimp fried rice, which again was expensive, and was basically unseasoned white rice with a bag of microwave mixed vegetables and a few tiny shrimp mixed inThe meat that came with some of the rice dishes was I guess authentic, in that it was mostly skin and gristle. If those cuts are going to be served fine, but they need to be stewed until they are at least edible - they mostly were notThe only item I did not regret getting was the whole snapper, which was very good, if pricy. If the whole meal had been like the snapper, I would have been very happyI was really looking forward to eating here and unfortunately, my experience was poor and I will not be returningService could have been better, was slow despite there only being a few diners, but the main issue was the food

Incredible food in a spacious atmosphere with great service. I got into Nigerian food living abroad in a Nigerian community and was so excited to see we finally got a spot in Philly! Please try the okra soup, the egusi with croakerfish and make sure your swallow is fufu(pounded yam)! Eat with your hands and bring your friends.

Food was TOP TEIR except I did not like the puff puff. It was not fresh.Only challenge, why was a Indian guy a hist at an African restaurant? Ive never seen an African host at an Indian restaurant. This is my only challenge. It was odd. He was just moderately friendly...no smiles... just business...

Listen.... I LOVE African food. Doesn't matter the country. But I especially love pepper soup. I've had it just about from EVERYWHERE in Philly and sometimes I make it at home (from YouTube recipes). This lady (the owner) at Eatwell ABSOLUTELY makes the BEST pepper soup I've ever tasted by FAR! The flavors are just ???(immaculate). She always tells me that she gets her spices and ingredients from Africa and it definitely shows ?The portion size is super good too. I've also had the Ayamase and Rice amd the beans and rice with goat and let me tell you both of those dishes were super awesome too. I HIGHLY recommend this place and I'll keep coming back as long as the recipes stay the same ?

Came Sunday night for a birthday dinner for my boyfriend with friends. I picked here based off of the google reviews and Eatwell did not disappoint! We’ve had our fair share of African food and this is by far the best we’ve had yet in Philly.Im not a big fan of goat normally for its taste but the starter was prepared so well that I didn’t mind that it was goat, I kept going back for more. The snails were huge and yummy, that plate was gone immediately. For entrees I had the okra soup with mixed meat and eba swallow (fufu). My boyfriend had the efo riro with mixed meat and I forget the name but the yam swallow. Our friends had the designer soup(ayamase), Nigerian triple fusion, and efo elegusi. Would recommend everything! I can’t speak on authenticity personally but our Nigerian friends said the food was authentic and that they would come back with their parents so that’s saying something.Portion sizes were great, I believe you’re getting a good deal for the price. Everything was fresh, flavorful, had varying levels of spiciness(not for the faint of heart) and was for sure hitting. Finger licking good. It made me dance in my seat to accompany the nice beats that were playing. We had a great time and will be back to try other things on the menu! It was hard deciding what to eat since everything sounded so good. Give Eatwell a try!
